FOX Corporation, the parent company to Fox News, has partnered with Polygon to fight the surge in AI-generated articles and deepfake media. Built on Polygon’s proof-of-stake blockchain, “Verify” is a tool used to establish the origin and history of media.
The FOX Corporation and the Polygon blockchain have partnered to launch ‘Verify’ – a tool designed to establish the authenticity and origin of digital content.
Protocol for Media Provenance
FOX Corporation has tapped into Polygon’s proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain to develop “Verify.’ According to a press release, Verify is an open-source protocol where media companies can register content and grant usage to AI platforms, and consumers can verify a piece’s content’s origin.
On Tuesday, FOX released the protocol, which employs blockchain technology to combat AI-generated media stories and deep fakes. Verify, built on the Polygon PoS blockchain, is an automated tool that helps users authenticate articles and images. While the project is still in beta, it also helps bridge AI platforms with media companies, allowing them to register content and grant usage to AI platforms.
Sandeep Nailwal, one of the four co-founders of the Polygon network, welcomed Fox to Polygon via an X (formerly Twitter) post.
“Today is the public beta release of Verify, an open source protocol that makes it easy for media companies to register content, like images, videos, and text, so that consumers can confirm their authenticity.
Built by Fox Technology on Polygon PoS due to low fees and fast transactions, this protocol could be an important tool for helping consumers identify when something was generated by AI and when it comes from an actual media company.”
Over 89,000 Pieces of Content Signed to Verify
Recognising the need to address the growing prevalence of AI-generated media, FOX enlisted the help of blockchain technology to create a tool to help detect such media. In the press release, Polygon said:
“Fox Corp launched a closed beta of Verify on August 23, coinciding with the first Fox News GOP debate. To date, 89,000 pieces of content, spanning text and images, have been signed to Verify, from Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Sports, and Fox TV affiliates.
Now, the protocol has been open sourced, allowing the public to contribute to and fork the source code. Media companies can head over to Verify to get in touch, while consumers use the Verify Tool to confirm origination of digital content from participating Fox sources.”
By using Verify, readers can confirm that an “article or image that purportedly comes from a publisher in fact originated at the source.”
Given its efficient and affordable transactions, Fox’s in-house technology team developed the tool and built it on Polygon PoS.
The tool is available at verify. fox.
