The countdown to the Fusaka upgrade on the Ethereum mainnet is in earnest, as the final rehearsal on Hoodi, the third and final testnet, took place on Tuesday.

“Another smooth upgrade, another key milestone on the road to Fusaka,” Nethermind stated in a post to X on Tuesday after its widely used validator client completed the fork.

The test, which went live around 18:53 UTC on the Hoodi testnet, involved passing a series of code changes meant to make Ethereum more scalable and more cost-efficient.

Fusaka had previously rolled out successfully on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets earlier this month. Ethereum core developers have tentatively slated the Fusaka hard fork for Dec. 3.

Coming roughly six months after Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade, Fusaka is designed to introduce several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), such as Peer Data Availability Sampling, or PeerDAS, via EIP-7594, enabling validators to read smaller pieces of data on layer 2 networks instead of full “blobs,” boosting node efficiency.

EIP-7825 and EIP-7935 are also included in the upcoming Fusaka upgrade, which seeks to raise the gas limit and enhance efficiency as Ethereum prepares to unlock parallel execution — which is the processing of multiple smart contracts at the same time.

Testnets like Hoodi play a key role in Ethereum’s development cycle, providing developers with a reliable environment to test upgrades under real-world conditions before they are activated on the main network.

Ether was recently trading at $4,003.09 — down about 2.6% on the day but still up 3.8% over the past seven days, according to CoinGecko data. From a bullish perspective, the Fusaka hard fork, coupled with strong spot ETH ETF inflows, presents an opportunity for ETH to continue its rocket surge toward the highly awaited $10,000 target.

Once Fusaka is implemented, attention will turn to the Glamsterdam upgrade, which is also part of the “Surge” stage of the Ethereum technical roadmap and targets faster block times and scalability enhancements such as the full EVM Object Format.
