Elon Musk’s xAI and El Salvador unveil world’s first nationwide AI education program

Elon Musk’s AI firm, xAI, announced today a partnership with El Salvador’s government to roll out the world’s first nationwide, AI-powered education program.

The initiative will deploy Grok across more than 5,000 public schools over the next two years, reaching over one million students.

The program will provide personalized learning that adjusts to each student’s pace, preferences, and mastery level. xAI said the system will serve students from urban centers to rural communities, with curriculum-aligned tutoring.

The partnership aims to generate new methodologies, datasets, and frameworks to guide AI use in classrooms globally, with emphasis on local contexts, safety, and human-centered impact. xAI stated the initiative will empower thousands of teachers as collaborative partners in education.

“El Salvador doesn’t just wait for the future to happen; we build it,” President Nayib Bukele said. “From establishing the global standard in security to now pioneering AI-driven education, El Salvador proves that nations can leapfrog directly to the top through bold policy and strategic vision. With xAI as the leader in frontier models and El Salvador as a testbed for innovation, this partnership is destined to deliver something rather extraordinary for all of humanity.”
