There is still no idea what the new Twitter under Elon Musk will be like.
Moves from Elon Musk who now calls himself the “Chief Twit” is becoming more pronounced in the newly acquired Twitter social media company. As reported by CNBC, citing several Twitter employees, Elon Musk has pulled more than 50 employees from all of his other companies including electric automaker Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA), SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.
Most of the staff being pulled over to Twitter are software engineers who have been tasked with reviewing the social media giant’s codebases and finding out how to improve the products. While this remains the plan for Elon Musk, some Twitter staff believe there are more hidden agendas with the integration of Tesla and SpaceX staff into the company. Some even believe it is an avenue for Musk to find who to fire in his frantic efforts to cut costs.
Specifically, some of the trusted staff pulled include but are not limited to; director of software development Ashok Elluswamy, director of Autopilot and TeslaBot engineering Milan Kovac, senior director of software engineering Maha Virduhagiri; Pete Scheutzow, a senior staff technical program manager, and Jake Nocon, who is part of Tesla’s surveillance unit, as a senior manager of security intelligence.
Existing Twitter employees confirmed that they have been instructed to work 12 hours shift 7 days a week in an attempt to meet some tight deadlines and deliverables that have been defined by Elon Musk. Some of these things include learning about the source codes used to build some of the social media giant’s products and gaining insight into content moderation and data-privacy requirements.
The 1 week of intense work will be a make-or-break moment for some of these Twitter staff as many may be laid off if their delivery is not satisfactory.
Elon Musk and the New Twitter Push
There is no idea what the new Twitter under Elon Musk will be like. At the moment, the communication amongst the company’s staff has died down as shown by its silent Slack channels communication channels.
Without the knowledge of what to expect about layoffs and firing, staff has remained worried that the aggressive approach to re-organizing Twitter is coming without adequate consideration for staff welfare. The overtime the staff will be working has not come with discussions about extra pay or whether it will guarantee job security.
Elon Musk has confirmed he will not be sacking 75% of the staffers at Twitter, however, expectations will go beyond refusing to retrench, it will go towards receiving what is truly expected in terms of appropriate compensation across the board.
Musk has elaborated on some of his plans to monetize the Twitter verification badge which he said will only be retained for those who subscribe to Twitter Blue. Many eyes are on what Twitter will evolve into now that Elon Musk is the sole CEO and Director of the company.
