- Avalanche’s and zkSync’s Discord channels were hacked by cybercriminals as they lured users to click malicious links.
- Polygon’s Discord channel went through the same ordeal on August 24.
Avalanche and zkSync’s Discord channels were hacked on August 25 as scammers posted malicious links to scam users from these projects’ communities. These incidents occurred less than two days after the Polygon Discord experienced a similar hack.
As hackers took over the layer-1 network Avalanche’s Discord, messages of a “distribution” event were posted. The bad actors lured users to click on the link by enticing users that an AVAX—Avalanche’s native token—giveaway occurred on the other side.

Avalanche’s team warned users of the incident on social media platform X. “SECURITY ALERT: The official Avalanche Discord has been compromised. Please do not interact with any accounts or click any links until further notice.” Not too long later, Ben Well, Avalanche’s community head, left an update mentioning that the Avalanche team “found the issue and we have it resolved.” He added they would “work diligently to get everything back to normal.”
zkSync did not issue any statement about its Discord channel experiencing similar issues but most definitely went through a hack. The channel’s members took to X to update the rest of the community and the crypto ecosystem.

Like the Avalanche incident, the hackers posted a malicious link by persuading users to click on it with claims of a ZK tokens airdrop. Such links ask users to connect their wallets to claim the rewards but drain the funds in their wallets.
Polygon User Claims to Have Lost $150,000 Due to Its Discord Channel Getting Hacked
A user on the Polygon Discord claimed to lose $150,000 worth of Ether they had in a pool by clicking on the malicious link posted in that channel on August 24. While the damage was done, according to the user, Polygon regained access to its channel hours later.
