In a Tweet on their Twitter profile, the official page of the Interpol announced that they entered the Metaverse. This should be a reassuring step for crypto enthusiasts and investors, as a legitimate organization stepped into the Metaverse. Will this pave the way for other official organizations to dip their toes into blockchain and cryptocurrencies? Will the Interpol Metaverse step be the first of many?
What is the Interpol ?
Interpol, sometimes referred to as the International Criminal Police Organization, is a global organization that promotes police cooperation and crime prevention around the globe. It is the biggest international police organization in the world, having its headquarters in Lyon, France, and a National Central Bureau in each of its 195 member states.
What does the Interpol Do?
The three main subsets of transnational crime that Interpol focuses on are organized crime, cybercrime, and terrorism. Interpol offers investigative help, knowledge, and training to law enforcement agencies across the world. Its expansive authority essentially encompasses all forms of criminal activity, including crimes against humanity, child pornography, drug manufacturing and trafficking, political corruption, violation of intellectual property, and white-collar crime. Through criminal databases and communications networks, the agency also promotes collaboration among national law enforcement organizations. Contrary to common assumptions, Interpol is not a law enforcement organization in and of itself.
The Metaverse goal is to link various people to a virtual world. The name itself denotes the possibility of users entering a world distinct from their own. Different facets of the digital environment, such as games and markets, allow for player interaction. However, because they appear as avatars, participants do not show in the Metaverse in their actual physical form. Virtual reality games are present in the Metaverse along with other components like streaming, digital assets, and other things. Games are played between players who exist in the actual world in the metaverse. This implies that the game cannot be stopped or restarted by one party. Users may also buy in-game artifacts for a certain amount of real money.
Earlier today, the official Twitter account of the Interpol announced their move into the Metaverse. Their aim is to bring a new learning and training experience across their staff. Being able to create multiple simulations across countries can be a hassle. Thanks to the Metaverse, the Interpol can connect its members all at once, allowing them to interact, train and learn in an interactive world.
The Metaverse today is still a growing industry. Despite Facebook’s rebrand into Meta, many people are still wary about this new world. Meta failed to garner attention around its new ecosystem which is still not live to the public. Its shares also plummeted by more than 60% in 2022, as the company spent more than USD 15 Billion on research and development into this sector that still is not live.
However, other organizations are embracing the truly decentralized ecosystem and plugging into the Metaverse much easier than Meta’s attempt to centralize everyone around them.
