Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit CEO Ben Zhou said the following about the hacking incident in his statement:
“Bybit ETH multisig cold wallet made a transfer to our hot wallet about 1 hour ago. This particular transaction appears to have been mugged, all signers saw the mugged UI showing the correct address and the URL came from Safe. However, the signing message was to change the smart contract logic of our ETH cold wallet. As a result, the Hacker took control of the specific ETH cold wallet we signed with and transferred all the ETH in the cold wallet to this unidentified address. Rest assured that all other cold wallets are safe.
All withdrawals are proceeding normally.”
We, as Bitcoinsistemi.com, reported that more than $1.46 billion worth of assets were transferred to external wallets in the hack. The majority of the assets withdrawn from Bybit in the attack consisted of mETH and stETH.
