 
 
Eduardo Taiano, Argentine Federal prosecutor, is investigating the $LIBRA scandal, focusing on President Javier Milei and other people associated with the token. During the scandal, around $110 million was accumulated. Authorities seek international assistance to track down the transactions and freeze the assets.
Taiano’s strategy includes blacklisting digital addresses to slow down the dispersion of funds across the world. He is also obtaining international warrants to obtain data from foreign cryptocurrency exchanges. He has further been collaborating with foreign agencies to investigate money laundering attempts.
The focus will be on the Solana token $LIBRA, which suddenly jumped to a $2 billion market cap before losing 90% of its value. The token crashed after insider-related wallets withdrew at the height of the pump.
Taiano is further investigating President Milei, obtaining phone logs and visitor records to the presidential offices.
He is also investigating people close to Milei, especially those with cryptocurrency ties.
 
The scandal has been called Libragate and there have been calls for Milei to be impeached.
On February 14, Milei posted on X describing the Libra coin as promoting Argentine business and supporting new startups. He included a link to the token’s website and the Solana address for the token.
One of the wallets associated with the pump and dump has transferred $4.5 million to a new address, with some funds allocated to the meme coin POPE. This could be an attempt at laundering the token.
Authorities are investigating whether there are any legal frameworks in Argentina to prosecute insider trading.
Alternatively, there could be a case that Milei was set up. It is not uncommon in politics for a hit job to occur so that Milei would face impeachment. What better way to set up the president than to take a photo with him and link him with a pump-and-dump scheme?
Needless to say, the event has certainly embarrassed President Milei and instead of focusing on economic recovery, he is focusing on bad press.
