Allbridge Hacker Returns Majority of Stolen Funds in Exchange of Bounty

• The hacker returned 1,500 BNB to the project at a value of around $465,000. 
• PeckShield has estimated that the amount of stolen funds is closer to $573,000.

Allbridge, a multichain token bridge, had over $573,000 stolen from it, but the exploiter has apparently returned a major amount of it in exchange for a white hat reward and no legal action.

On April 3, Allbridge tweeted that it had received a message from a person who has returned 1,500 BNB to the project at a value of around $465,000. Allbridge said the remaining money would be deemed a white hat reward for the individual. It was stated that all “received BNB” was converted to Binance USD (BUSD), a stablecoin.

BNB Chain to the Rescue

On April 1, blockchain security company PeckShield tweeted a warning to Allbridge that a liquidity provider and swapper was manipulating the swap price of its BNB Chain pools.

After the exploit, Allbridge offered the hacker a reward and a way out of legal trouble. While Allbridge has not made the amount of stolen funds public, blockchain security company CertiK has estimated that the amount is near $550,000, and PeckShield has estimated that the amount of stolen funds is closer to $573,000, consisting of $282,889 in BUSD and $290,868 worth of Tether.

Allbridge also supplied a link to a wallet with 0.97 BNB (now worth around $300) and stated that a second address had utilized the same hack.

Allbridge has requested that the second exploiter make contact to negotiate the refund. After the original breach, Allbridge made it known that it was actively searching for the missing money and collaborating with other groups to recover it. BNB Chain said in a tweet on April 2 that it has identified at least one of the perpetrators via on-chain analysis.
