A look back at CoinGeek TV 2023

Simulcasting live at the London Blockchain Conference 2023 (LBC) is CoinGeek TV, a talk show that aims to deliver unique content on the sidelines of blockchain conferences. Now in its third year, the show has become a good source of information for those who want to know more about the BSV blockchain ecosystem and its participating partners. Hosted this year by Kurt Wuckert Jr., Rebecca Liggero, and Jon Southurst, CoinGeek TV offers its viewers valuable insights from keynote speakers and presenters in a casual setting, steps away from all the LBC action.

Calvin Ayre on CoinGeek TV

Setting the tone this year is Calvin Ayre, who joined CoinGeek TV’s premiere broadcast. The Ayre Group and CoinGeek founder explained why he chose London as the new home of the annual BSV conference saying, “We want to be in one place and gain local support and be part of the community, and where better than London.”

As he explains, “The city is the place where the formative stack of technology, patent IP on top of a utility blockchain, was invented by nChain.”

Christen Ager-Hassen and Stefan Matthews on CoinGeek TV

Speaking of nChain, host Becky Liggero was joined by nChain Group CEO Christen Ager-Hanssen and Executive Chairman Stefan Matthews.

Ager-Hanssen was ecstatic as he talked about the conference saying, “Most conferences don’t meet my expectations, but this totally rocked!” He observed people at the event and saw how inspired they were by the talks, the connections they’ve made, and the abundance of investor opportunities they’ve been exposed to.

Matthews, a pioneer in the space, has seen BSV blockchain conferences evolve throughout the years. He tells CoinGeek TV: “We’ve never seen anything like this before.” Aside from the massive turnout, he was impressed with the stage and several inspiring keynote speeches.

Peter Schiff on CoinGeek TV

Chief economist and global strategist for Euro Pacific Asset Management, Peter Schiff, emerged as one of the highlights of the three-day conference. Schiff shared his insightful take on fiat, gold, and blockchain on the show, saying the latter has a clear advantage over the previous two.

“It’s easy to compete with fiat currency as a store of value; I mean gold wins hands down.. but now blockchain takes gold and puts it at a competitive advantage, not just as a store of value but its ease of use as a medium of exchange.”

A discussion on BTC then surfaced as host Wuckert mentioned Schiff’s lack of enthusiasm for the “cryptocurrency.” Schiff also reacted to the controversial back-and-forth’s between him and the BTC community on Twitter, to which he said, “they [BTC] don’t dislike me, they’re constantly trying to win me over, they like me, but they don’t like the fact that I haven’t drank the Kool-Aid.”

The two went on to discuss other relevant issues specifically pertaining to what constitutes the true value of blockchain. As Schiff explains, “People say blockchain’s like the internet, the internet has value not because it’s there but because of what it enables me to do, and so blockchain or a token has to deliver that kind of utility, you can’t simply say the utility is that its scarce, so what? It has to be scarce and valuable.”

Ben McKenzie on CoinGeek TV

CoinGeek TV is known for its share of celebrity guests in the past, with the likes of Adrian Grenier, who appeared on the show at the 2021 BSV blockchain conference in New York City. This year, CoinGeek TV was joined by Ben McKenzie, who is famous for his acting stint in shows like The O.C. and Gotham. McKenzie is also the co-author of a book called “Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism and the Golden Age of Fraud.”

As he tells Wuckert in a special edition of CoinGeek TV, he went through a FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) period during the pandemic and became skeptical after people around him began “gambling” in digital currency. He said his undergraduate degree in economics and acting experience made him see through the lies. As he points out, “the way people use language is very important and very telling, and when they were calling these things currencies, they weren’t working liking currencies.”

Despite being a blockchain critic, McKenzie acknowledges the technology behind Bitcoin and admits he is curious to see what comes next.

“There is an underlying technology here that is blockchain that predates the invention of cryptocurrencies by more than a decade, so what does blockchain do? I’m somewhat agnostic on that point. I really don’t know the answer to it. I don’t think anyone really knows the answer to it. I’m really excited to see where it goes,” he says.

From a blockchain critic to a commanding leader in the United States. Former U.S. Navy Secretary Kenneth Braithwaite stopped by CoinGeek TV to share some key takeaways from his keynote on leadership. As he points out, leadership “is about creating a collaborative environment where everybody can be productive and thrive.”

Richard Baker, Jon Anderson, and Hirander Misra on CoinGeek TV

Some big new developments in the BSV blockchain ecosystem were also discussed on the show as Tokenovate and GMEX announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind, smart legal contract for voluntary carbon credit derivatives trades. Host Southurst digs deep and established with guests Tokenovate CEO Richard Baker, CPO Jon Anderson, and GMEX Group CEO Hirander Misra the definition of voluntary carbon credit, a new term being used to describe how corporations are being incentivized to reduce or remove carbon emissions from their corporations.

To expound further, Baker says, “The voluntary carbon market brings a set of definitions for biological and mechanical resources to be brought in so corporations can buy those credits.”

The joint venture with GMEX Group, a set of companies offering sustainable and innovative solutions to global financial markets, has been a long time in the making and has a massive impact on BSV. As Baker points out, “To the BSV community, it’s the first set of trades in highly regulated financial services industry, derivative contracts, spots and forwards on the Bitcoin protocol, amazing achievement.”

Dr, Craig Wright on CoinGeek TV

nChain chief scientist and Bitcoin inventor Dr. Craig Wright caps off the program with an interesting discussion on artificial intelligence (AI), to which he says, “AI or actual ignorance is really automation, it’s a great automation tool, it’ll make those who know a discipline more efficient at getting information.” As far as the downside, he says, “The biggest threat I see right now from AI isn’t what people are promoting, it’s a better search engine, and it will replace Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL).”

Dr. Wright points to AI’s capacity to eliminate data entry problems in all industries. As a former statistician, he recalls cleansing erroneous data by either fixing or getting rid of them. He acknowledges AI’s contribution to efficient and accurate data entry.

As for Dr. Wright’s take on the new home of BSV conferences, he says, “London is traditionally the heart of global finance, were moving all our applications here.. I want to embrace this country as my own and build blockchain here and make it part of the growing economy of this nation.”
