Arthur Britto, one of the most mysterious names in the cryptocurrency world, is known as both one of the founders of Ripple and the President of PolySign, which provides corporate payment infrastructure.

But his story is notable not only for his achievements, but also for a life shrouded in almost complete secrecy.

However, this changed on June 23, 2024. Britto shared a post on the X (formerly Twitter) platform for the first time in 14 years. The post contained only an emoji. While discussions continued in the community that the account may have been compromised, Ripple CTO David Schwartz confirmed that the post was real.

Before embarking on his journey in the crypto world, Britto worked in the video game design space. In 2023, Ripple CTO David Schwartz confirmed this background by sharing Britto’s game design credits on MobyGames.

Britto, who laid the foundation of XRP Ledger with David Schwartz and Jed McCaleb in 2011, founded Ripple (originally NewCoin Inc.) with the participation of Chris Larsen in 2012. Britto, one of the architects of XRP, held an advisory role at Ripple Labs until 2019.

Britto has filed 13 different patents since 2006, including both pending and those granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to Ripple, he also served as CEO of an early internet service provider called Information Access Technologies Inc. and ran a Bitcoin exchange called exchangeyourbitcoins.com.

One of the most striking things about Britto is his invisibility. He has never given an interview, has no public photos, and has maintained a social media silence for years. In a statement released by Ripple in 2019, he said Britto is an “introverted, extremely private person” and that he chooses not to appear in public for personal reasons.
