In the U.S and in many other countries in the world, the month of June is dedicated to the LGBTQI+ community. An NFT collection is launched for this occasion to raise funds for organizations working for the rights of the LGBTQI+ community. The NFT collection is a tribute to some selected pride icons.
Dubbed as “Pride Icons”, the NFT collection is being hailed as “the world’s largest LGBTQI+ NFT collection.” The NFT collection celebrates 100 artists and personalities who are cultural icons for the queer community, including Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Andy Warhol, Cher, and Marsha P. Johnson. Johnson led atfront of the Stonewall riots in 1969 and was an African-American transgender woman.
Artists Matan Berson, Max Bahman, and Gal Ben David have immortalized all these icons in the form of NFTs. The artists have embodied the essence of these LGBTQI+ personalities. Eliad Cohen, the co-founder of the project, explained that each icon is created from each star while each NFT is related to the icone and what it stood for.
There are three groups in which the “Pride Icons” collection is categorized into. Each group has its own rarity and provides access to different privileges, like discounts on cosmetic surgeries or private events.
The website of the project also noted that some NFTs are rarer than others, “all Pride Icons are fabulous, legendary and unique in their own way,”
However, collectors would have to wait till next month to get their hands on the “Pride Icons” collection. Though someone has already bought the Andy Warhol NFT for 1.4 Ethereum. The creators of projects expect more such sales. They say that the NFT collection pays tribute to those legendary LGBTQ+ icons that have bought the community so far. Adding, they said the community is led by purpose and enables its members to empower non-profits.
Organizations and Charities such as GLAAD and the Trevor Project, which are working for the rights of the LGBTQI+ community, will be given $1 million as donations. One of the co-founders of “Pride Icons,” Amir Lazarovich, says in an interview, says “the power will come when enough of a community has been built up, once we get more people, we can do so much good for this world.”
