Lots of news today related to the metaverse and NFTs, such as the launch of the Metaverse Standards Forum by Meta, Microsoft, Epic Games, Adobe and other companies joining together to create an interconnected and open system.
Not only that, Mark Zuckerberg announced new ways to monetize on Meta which also involves NFT creators, while eBay acquired KnownOrigin’s Non-Fungible Token marketplace.
Meta, Microsoft, Epic Games and other companies launch the Metaverse Standards Forum
The new Metaverse Standards Forum is a new venue for cooperation between organizations and companies to promote the development of interoperability standards for an open and inclusive metaverse.
Following the idea that the potential of the metaverse will be best realized if built on a foundation of open standards, a community of corporate giants have come forward to become founding members of this forum.
Among the many, we find Meta, Microsoft, Epic Games and Adobe, but also Sony, Ikea, Nvidia and Huawei. Excluded from the list, however, are Apple, Roblox and Niantic.
In this regard, Neil Trevett, manager of graphics card manufacturer Nvidia and chairman of the Metaverse Standards Forum, said that the organization aims to facilitate communication between various entities to achieve real-world interoperability in the metaverse.
The Metaverse Standards Forum is open to any organization at no cost, including participants from the crypto world, and will focus on projects such as hackathons and open-source tools.
Metaverse and NFT News: new ways for NFT creators to monetize on Meta
In a series of postrs on FacebookCEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, announced a new monetization initiative for creators, which also involves NFTs, in a series of posts on Facebook.
Specifically, Zuckerberg emphazised that he is developing new ways for content creators to earn money on Facebook and Instagram, as well as in the future for creators for the metaverse.
Firstly, no creator revenue will be shared with either Facebook or Instagram until 2024, so that earnings will be totally directed to creators. Then, there is talk of Facebook stars, open to all eligible creators, so that more people can start earning from their Reels, live or VOD videos.
On the subject of NFTs, Zuckerberg writes the following:
“Digital Collectibles: We’re expanding our test so more creators around the world can display their NFTs on Instagram. We’ll bring this feature to Facebook soon too — starting with a small group of US creators — so people can cross-post on Instagram and Facebook. We’ll also test NFTs in Instagram Stories with SparkAR soon”.
Indeed, Instagram’s first NFT test phase was announced by the social’s CEO Adam Mosseri in mid-May 2022.
eBay: from e-commerce physical objects to NFT marketplace
Yesterday, global online trading giant eBay closed a deal to acquire the NFT marketplace of KnownOrigin.
Speaking about this, Jamie Iannone, CEO of eBay said:
“eBay is the first stop for people across the globe who are searching for that perfect, hard-to-find, or unique addition to their collection and, with this acquisition, we will remain a leading site as our community is increasingly adding digital collectibles. KnownOrigin has built up an impressive, passionate and loyal group of artists and collectors making them a perfect addition to our community of sellers and buyers. We look forward to welcoming these innovators as they join the eBay community”.
This is a confirmation for the retail giant that it will now not only bring together sellers and buyers of physical items worldwide, but also bring its expertise to the world of digital collectibles, NFTs.
Recently, eBay had launched eBay Vault, the US e-commerce giant’s new vault for the secure storage of physical collectible cards.
