Jeju Island introduces an NFT tourism card offering travel subsidies, discounts, and benefits using blockchain and Tamna Jeon cryptocurrency.
Jeju Island in South Korea will launch a new tourism project in 2025. This project will use Non-Fungible Token (NFT) technology. The aim is to provide tourists with such benefits as travel subsidies, discounts and membership privileges. The project will also utilize a native cryptocurrency on Tamna Jeon.
According to the local media report, Korean tourists will start being able to get a ‘digital tourism resident card’ this year. However, the benefits this card will provide include travel subsidies. NFT will be connected to the card, which are secure digital assets. They are safe from hacking because these assets are stored on a blockchain. Transactions are recorded and can’t be altered according to Blockchain. Additionally, NFTs also prove ownership of digital content, making them a trustworthy option.
Visitors will also be able to record their trips with the digital tourism card, which will allow tourists to save details such as photos, videos, and time spent at each location. By doing so, they will create a personal digital record of their visit to Jeju Island.
Jeju Island Launches NFT Tourism Card to Enhance Visitor Experience
The project is targeted at younger generations: Millennials and Gen Z. These people are natural to be with something digital than being with something on the ground. Using NFTs could open the door to attract more younger tourists, they hope. The other goal is to generate repeat visits as well. For these visitors, the digital card will make that experience more unique and engaging.
There will be travel subsidies using the digital card provided in Jeju Island as well. Instead, the donations will be kept in the local cryptocurrency, Tamna Jeon. This will stimulate tourists to spend money in the region itself. This means more spending for local businesses. This will aslo help pump money into the island’s economy.
The digital card will also provide discounts at local attractions in addition to travel subsidies. The reduction in the price is in the tourist places that attract visitors. This makes Jeju extra attractive for visitors.
Later this year, the digital tourism resident card will be tested. The trial phase occurs until the second half of 2025, followed by a full launch. Similar initiatives could take place at other tourist destinations if the project succeeds. Jeju wants to become a standard set for a modern tourist destination. The island will use NFTs and blockchain to create a secure, unique, and rewarding experience for visitors.
