ItaliaNFT, the NFT marketplace of ‘made in Italy’, is auctioning off a new historical work of art from 18 June: the famous ‘immortal kiss’ between Liz Taylor and Richard Burton in Ischia, replicated as a Non-Fungible Token format together with Marcello Geppetti Media Company.
ItaliaNFT and the auction of the ‘immortal kiss’ NFT: one of the highest-paid photos ever
It was 1962 when Marcello Geppetti surprised and photographed the two actors starring in the film Cleopatra, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, kissing on the roof of a motorboat in Ischia, signing the worldwide scoop that redefined the concept of passion at the time, with much debate in public opinion.
A world scoop that is now being revived in a sequence of photos of the kiss as an NFT format, realized by the Marcello Geppetti Media Company, using original negatives and morphing techniques, and put up for auction on ItaliaNFT as early as 18 June 2022.

Geppetti’s most valuable photo has been rated as one of the most highly paid of all time, with Richard Burton himself having proposed to the photographer, without a positive response, as much as 12,000,000.00 lire, more than 150,000 euro, to block publication.
Not only that, according to a calculation made by the family, the shot earned around 30 million of the old lira, a figure that today would be around 400,000 euro.
The immortal kiss NFT and the Digital Art of Archives
With the aim of enhancing the digital assets of Made In Italy, ItaliaNFT is thus proposing the photo of the scandalous kiss 60 years ago as an unpublished clip that can be purchased via auction in its NFT version.
A sort of first “digital” scoop in history, which opens a new frontier for digital art applied to archives.
On this subject, Achille Minerva, CEO and founder of ItaliaNFT said:
“The rebirth of the immortal kiss in the form of NFT video represents a historic moment not only for the world of non-fungible tokens but for all of Made in Italy because it certifies once and for all the potential of NFTs in giving new life to the present artistic and cultural heritage in our country. The quality and historical significance of Marcello Geppetti’s photos, the advances in computer graphics technologies and the inviolability guaranteed by a granite platform based on Blockchain represent a winning model for bringing excellence of this type into the new era of digital value”.
ItaliaNFT and the NFT artwork drop by Luna Berlusconi
Recently, ItaliaNFT also hosted the first drop of Luna Berlusconi‘s NFT Art ‘Driade – La Divina’, which started on 14 June 2022.
The artwork is intended to carry a message for women, with an image of a woman with soft and voluminous forms, beautiful and sensual, sitting on planet Earth to represent that search for harmony between the human being and cosmic balance.
Included in Driade – La Divina NFT is also an original audio track created by Vittorio Vaccaro with the Duduk, an Armenian instrument from the woodwind family that Unesco has declared a World Heritage Site.
