A team in the English domestic league have signed three players based on supporters’ NFTs vote. League Two outfit Crawley Town reached out to supporters to seek their opinion on which player to sign through an NFT vote.
Notably, Crawley Town offered the club’s NFT and season ticket holders to participate in voting. Though not all season ticket owners joined the process, the club signed three outfield players in the end. Therefore, resulting in the signing of Jayden Davis, Ben Wells, and Moe Shubbar.
However, Co-owner Preston Johnson made it known that not all NAFTA holders were part of the process. Johnson established that despite involving fans in transfer decisions, the final decision on who to play lies with the manager. The Co-owner divulged that the club didn’t entrust the fans the ultimate say on who to sign. Instead, the club had previously given them statistics to help the supporters make decisions.
Yet, the development is remarkable regarding how NFTs have helped change fan engagement. The initiative is a substantial development compared to the kind of engagement famous sports token company “Socios” offers. With Socios, fans only make decisions on minor issues like the kind of music to be played over the stadium’s music system.
Recall that the League Two club has enjoyed a change of fortune recently. Around April, the club witnessed a takeover by crypto enthusiasts, WAGMI united. Since then, the club have made headlines for numerous developments.
First, the club made an ambitious move for award-winning Chelsea Women Coach Emma Hayes. After failing to lure the gaffer to the club, Crawley Town switched attention to Arsenal Youth Coach Kevin Betsy. Consequently, securing his signature last month.
Additionally, the presence of crypto enthusiasts as the club owners has created a romance between the club and crypto. The club launched an NFT-only strip, making history as the first English team to make such a move. Also, Crawley town launched a native token of its own, allowing fans to earn the club’s third strip if they invest in the native token.
The new club owners have slashed Ticket Rates by 30% while selling 10,000 NFTs to fans. This innovation birthed a revenue of $4 million for the club. Also, the owners inaugurated a seven-member council with straight relationships.
Lastly, the new owners’ presence has generated a new nickname for the club. Crawley Town is now referred to as the “Internet Football Team.” The new owners aim to create a mobile international community of football fans. Believe that anyone with access to the internet can actively support the club irrespective of their location. The club aims to play at the pinnacle of English domestic football, despite being three promotions away.
