Black Adam to Follow Superman
DC Comics have come a long way since its inception in 1934. The universe features one of the most admired superheroes like Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman and more. The company revealed the Batman Cowl NFTs in April 2022. Now they are bringing the Man of Steel and others into the virtual arena. They announced a DC Collectible Comics (D3) which will feature Superman #1, the most valuable collection in the history of DC. The first drop will mint 3,000 NFTs upon the launch.
The DC NFT collection will contain tokens with various rarities from Common to Rare. Black Adam #1 will follow the non-fungible trail after the initial launch. Recently, the Mighty Adam made its Hollywood debut in the movie Black Adam. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays the lead superhero, and the film grabbed a whopping $152 Million in the opening weekend at the global box office.
DC Comics entered the NFT sector with the Batman Cowl NFT collection, which did not see any considerable sales upon the launch. The collectibles were launched following the worldwide release of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, played by Robert Pattinson. Though the movie caught a lot of eyes, their virtual side-kicks failed to do so.
Besides DC superheroes, Marvel superheroes have a history with NFTs too. In 2021, 20th Century Fox collaborated with Atom Tickets to issue Deadpool NFTs through VeVe, an NFT platform. The Atom Ticket buyers received the virtual collectibles via a redeemable code in their mobile devices.
Recently, Marvel announced Slam Girl NFTs, a character created by Stan Lee and long forgotten by the fans. The character came to life during the New York Comic Con 2022. According to the character origins, the girl took a sip of a radioactive drink “Spider Bite” beer, and the rest is history.
Marvel and DC are currently the biggest rivals in the superhero comics and film industry. Fans from both sides keep comparing the characters to show the rivals who’s the best. For example, the caped crusader, Batman, is compared with Marvel’s legendary Ironman, played by Robert Downey Jr. in the movies, Odinson Thor with The Aquaman and more.
Though Marvel is usually ahead of the DC comics in the majority of aspects, it appears like the company is hiding a trick up their sleeve. This may include the upcoming content by DC Extended Universe (DCEU) comprising The Flash, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, Shazam: Fury of Gods and more. DCEU has generated $5.9 Billion to this date, and is the 11th highest grossing franchise of all time.
