Hackers and scammers show no sign of slowing down in attacking crypto and non-fungible token-related projects. In yet another strike, hackers have compromised Bored Ape’s new boss “Daniel Alegre” Twitter account and used it to promote fraudulent phishing links.

Daniel Alegre’s Twitter Account Hacked

In a May 3 blog post, Greg Solano, the co-founder of Yuga Labs, confirmed that hackers have breached Daniel Alegre’s Twitter account and are using the account to promote malicious phishing links. Solano has cautioned all users not to click any link associated with Alegre’s Twitter account.

Daniel Alegre is the new Chief Executive Officer at Yuga Labs, the digital assets firm behind popular NFT collections such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, and Otherdeed for Otherside NFT collection. Alegre, the former Activision Blizzard Vice President, assumed office last month from former CEO Nicole Muniz.

Why Is Yuga Labs Vulnerable To Hacks?

The Bore Ape Yacht Club creator “Yuga Labs” is one of the most successful non-fungible token companies in the nascent crypto sector. The $4 billion startup has gained traction among investors, businesses, and institutions. The rise to fame has made Yuga Labs vulnerable to hacks and scams.

It’s not the first time hackers compromised Yuga Labs-related projects. In June 2022, hackers posted a phishing link directly to the Discord channels of BAYC and Otherside, a metaverse “game” developed by BAYC’s parent company Yuga Labs. At the time, the hackers posed as the channel’s moderator Boris Vagner, whose account had already been hacked.

Moreover, Yuga Labs revealed its MailChimp account got hacked earlier this year but claimed NFTs and other vital data were safe. Yuga Labs confirmed that it had only used the service a few times and “for limited purposes” but wished to share the information out of caution.

In the meantime, several non-fungible token collectors, who previously clicked fraudulent links on Daniel Alegre’s Twitter account, have claimed that their wallets have been drained. The estimated loss following the hack is yet identified. Daniel Alegre has yet to recover his Twitter account at the time of publishing.
