- Bonham’s, an auction house made an announcement for the initial whisky NFT auction sale for a 72 Year Old Glen Grant Whisky.
- There were only 290 bottles of this classic whisky made, and had established a world record price when auctioned just a year ago by the auction house.
- Premier Whisky’s Managing Director says that they knew from the beginning that they had chosen a great whisky.
Whisky Is Liquid Sunshine
In the upcoming sale on May 20th at Bonham’s, a bottle of classic Gordon & MacPhail’s Glen Grant 72 year old whisky is to be auctioned along with a sole one-off NFT art. Hong Kong’s year 1948 is originally being celebrated by this artwork, the year when the whisky was set down in the cask.
This artwork was commissioned by commemorated South China Morning Post artist Harry Harrison, whose controversial drawings have captured the distinct essence of Hong Kong over the years. It also tags the time when initially Harry’s art has been minted as a Non Fungible Token.
Bonham’s Fine and Rare Wines and Whisky Director, Daniel Lam discussed the May auction. He said, The auction will see the sale of couple of very special Japanese whiskies, the Yamakazi 55 and 50, which are must have for any whisky enthusiast, and this Holy Grail of Scottish Single Malts, the Glen Grant 1948 having won “Best Cask in the World” in 2022 Whisky Bible.
The Bottle That Made The Cut
Bottle Number 88 out of a total 290 bottles of this considerable 72 year old whisky had established a world record value during an auction previous year by Bonham’s.
Daniel Lam said that, this time, with world first NFT art linked, they believe that the former record for a sole bottle of rare Glen Grant 72-year-old single malt will be surpassed and could even reach $127K.
Gordon and MacPhail 72-year-old is the oldest Glen Grant whisky ever launched in the market. It also knocked spots off of the most expensive Glen Grant whisky ever sold in an auction, where it bagged $53,631 at Bonham’s Hong Kong previous year.
NFT minted along one of these legendary bottles is the initial project of Meta Malts, a freshly created Hong Kong organization which is laying down a plan to take premium whisky into the metaverse and develop a cryptocurrency exchange based in Hong Kong for trading in rare whisky tokens.
