Jonathan Majors’ once-promising career appears to be teetering on a knife’s edge at the moment after he was arrested on allegations of domestic assault after a recent incident with a woman late last month.
While Majors has said he looks “forward to clearing his name,” many people near him do not seem to be waiting for that to happen. Deadline is reporting that Majors has now been dropped by his talent manager, Entertainment 360, and his PR firm, The Lede Company. It was “mutually agreed” that he wouldn’t be attending the Met Gala this year, and has reportedly been dropped from the upcoming films The Man in My Basement and Otis and Zelma. He even was cut from an ad campaign for the MLB’s Texas Rangers.
That leaves one, big project. The singular project that likely will determine his entire remaining career, if he has one, the role of Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Majors has already played the role in both Loki, and then very prominently in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. His part in Loki season 2 is already filmed, and he’s the entire lynchpin of most of Phase 5 leading up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
But according to Deadline in the same report about him losing his management agency and PR firm, they say here have been “zero conversations in the Marvel camp to drop Majors from the MCU.” At least at present, it does not appear to be on the table. It’s a bit reminiscent of how Ezra Miller continued to be supported by WB and DC to continue playing The Flash after what can only be described as a literal crime spree. But Miller reportedly apologized and sought help. Majors, on the other hand, maintains his innocence after his arrest, and his lawyer has said that they believe the charges will be dropped. That has not yet happened.
After breaking onto the scene in HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Majors scored big wins this year with his role in Creed III, and most people agreed he was the best part of the underwhelming Quantumania, and were looking forward to more of his Kang. Well, right now, we may actually get more of that Kang, unless Marvel changes their mind and follows the Texas Rangers to cut Majors from the MCU. But as of now, that does not appear to be happening. We’ll see how the situation evolves from here.
