X (Twitter) Withdraws Support By Removing NFTs From Profile

Elon Musk, the X owner, shared the company’s plan for 2024. It includes the removal of NFT profile pictures. In January 2022, the previous management of the company allowed Twitter Blue subscribers to set NFTs as profile pictures.

The users can set the hexagonal avatars. They can click on the profile pictures and get more details about the collection, token ID, and also about the app on which the non-fungible token was minted.

All the descriptions about the NFT profile pictures are now deleted from X’s support page. Those having NFT profile pictures still have hexagonal avatars. It is not unclear whether or not those will be removed.

At present, X (Twitter) is not favoring non-fungible tokens. Earlier, this social media was regarded as a way to show their support for the particular NFTs. However, it is now restricted the use of an NFT as a profile picture.

What was X’s (Twitter) Earlier Stand on the Use of NFT as Profile Pictures?

Last year in March, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, shut down the support for NFT. However, the market of NFT is in recovery mode. The market has recovered with trade volumes above $1.6 Billion over the last few months. The high-priced tokens like the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) have rapidly decreased since its peak.

In 2022, the company allowed Twitter Blue subscribers to set NFTs minted on Ethereum as profile pictures and this eventually showed up as hexagons. All the descriptions attached with NFT profile pictures are now deleted by X (Twitter)

The hexagon shape shows that the person is the owner of that NFT. The hexagonal avatars are still not removed; only the details attached to the NFT profile pictures are removed. It is not clear whether X will eventually remove this hexagonal avatar as well.

Many influencers and artists promote their work on Twitter. Now, they have implications of highlighting the supported NFT as the profile picture. It will impact the sales of NFT and surely the market trend.

Earlier, the social media platform X (Twitter) allowed users to buy, sell, and display NFTs directly through tweets. Now, no such facility for using it as profile pictures will be provided. The platform has already deleted the information linked with the NFTs that were previously available. It previously showed information regarding specific non-fungible tokens “users used as their profile pictures”, such as when it was minted, its address, and other important details.

Summary

The most commonly used social media platform for sharing information, X (Twitter) has withdrawn its support for NFTs. It has restricted the use of NFTs as profile pictures. It was mostly done by the supporters and users to favor any NFT. Now, they cannot highlight their support using NFTs as a profile.

However, the details attached to the NFT profile have been removed and it is not clear yet whether the hexagonal NFT profile will be deleted or not.
