WrestleMania week is shaping up to be the biggest ever in the legendary career of Rey Mysterio.
Before his big showdown with Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 39, Rey will be inducted into the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame following the March 31 broadcast of SmackDown in Los Angeles. Before that, Mysterio will be immortalized inside cereal boxes nationwide as a limited-edition Cinnamoji.
Mysterio will grace the cover of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, with Mysterio’s legendary mask also emblazoned on the popular cereal. The limited-edition cereal boxes are available exclusively on Walmart.com starting this month. The back of the box doubles as a pop-up wrestling ring.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch is a staple of the General Mills empire, which grossed fiscal 2022 net sales of $19 billion. Cinnamon Toast Crunch first featured Cinnamoji mascots last year in honor of star Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson and SpongeBob SquarePants.
“Cinnamojis are always up for anything and given the chance to adventure into a world of wrestling with spirited characters, colorful masks, and enthusiastic fans, they were all in,” said Mindy Murray, Sr. Marketing Communications Manager for General Mills. “WWE is at the epicenter of sports entertainment, and we are thrilled to bring Cinnamojis’ antics to their passionate fanbase.”
WWE has ramped up its partnerships and sponsors in the Nick Khan era, with branded matches—like the Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match—becoming a calling card of the regime. The outreach has paid off as WWE’s sponsorship revenue was up 200% following the Royal Rumble.
“Cinnamon Toast Crunch is an enduring brand with an amazing product, and we’re excited to welcome them as a first-time WrestleMania sponsor,” said Craig Stimmel, Head of Global Sales and Partnerships, WWE.
Mysterio has used is likenesses for partnerships in the past, including Victoria Beer. Mysterio will be the headline inductee during the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony, in what is all but guaranteed to be the rare Hall of Fame speech that also incorporates a WrestleMania storyline.
After weeks of being taunted by his son, and rising heel Dominik Mysterio, Rey finally snapped and popped Dominik last week on SmackDown after Dominik Mysterio told his mother—and Rey’s wife—to “shut up.” Like many moments with Triple H at the helm of WWE creative, this angle led to a gigantic pop inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Dominik is expected to retaliate during Rey Mysterio’s induction to further his piping-hot storyline with his father.
Rey Mysterio will be the first individual Hall of Famer to be inducted, while also having a WrestleMania match, since Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat in 2009. The last inductee to work a WrestleMania match the following night was Triple H in 2019 when he joined the Hall of Fame as part of D-Generation X. Triple H went on to defeat Batista the following night.
Alongside Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs. The Usos, Mysterio vs. Mysterio is worthy of headlining Night 1 of WrestleMania, though Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea is reportedly being considered as the night’s final match.
