Wordle Today #407 Hint And Answer, Sunday July 31st Word Of The Day

The last day of July, 2o22 is upon us. Tonight, I’m taking my kids to see Father John Misty play at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. We’ve been looking forward to this little trip for months now.

If you’re not familiar with Misty, he’s absolutely one of the finest indie songsmiths in the business right now. He’ll be playing tunes from his new album Chloë and the Next 20th Century (hopefully along with some of his older songs) with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, so that’s exciting.

It will also serve as a salve of sorts for my wounded pride. I have finally missed on a Wordle. I blame it on lack of sleep. On working from a hotel. On being in a hurry. On being on vacation.

But where will blame get us in the end? You cannot eat blame. You cannot trade it for goods or services. You can only throw it at others and hope that it sticks long enough for you to hide your own faults. I blame myself, in other words. I have failed miserably.

To be fair, it’s a tricky word. Let’s take a look.

The answer:

I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later. I was bound to finally miss, to fail, to blunder, to crash and burn.

Crash, of course, was my fourth guess on today’s Wordle. I’m sure I would have gotten it right this time if I’d just used Wordle Bot’s favorite starting word, crane, but no. I’m stubborn and I try to use a new word every single day. This is my crazy take on playing Wordle. That was also my third guess.

My opening word was certainly archaic. An aurei is “a gold coin of ancient Rome, worth 25 silver denarii.” It certainly eliminated lots of vowels, though crane would have gotten me three greens on guess 1.

Rowan, a type of tree with orange berries, did little but elimate the ‘O’ and next I decided I should see if the letter ‘Y’ was in there so I went with crazy. I didn’t fully appreciate just how many words begin with cra until I failed at my craft (guess #5) and took one last crack at this damnable Wordle.

Alas, I failed! I should have guessed a word that eliminated more letters but didn’t include cra but I often play “hard mode” so this was not an option. The actual answer ended up being cramp, and I’m certainly feeling the pain!
