WWE Raw Winners And Match Card
The Judgment Day def. The O.C. and Michin
Becky Lynch kicked off WWE Raw and was more over than ever. To be sure, she cut her promo in the crowd.
Becky Lynch’s comeback promo gave way to a wild backstage brawl with Damage CTRL and the babyfaces from WarGames. Judging by the intensity of this brawl alone, the 2023 women’s Royal Rumble is going to slap.
Corey Graves announced WWE Raw would be commercial free for the first hour. Going up against national team the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football, however, it might not make a difference. Good thing the Steelers suck this year.
This started as a match between Rhea Ripley and Michin, but then devolved into a four-on-four tag team match. So, why couldn’t this have been an elimination match at Survivor Series this past weekend?
Rhea Ripley picked up another victory, this time over Michin, as she remains unbeatable since returning to the ring. She should be considered a darkhorse to win the women’s Royal Rumble.
Kevin Owens Confronts Sami Zayn
Kevin Owens is the babyface in this feud, while Sami Zayn—who turned his back on his best friend for clout—is the heel. You would never know it by the crowd reactions, though, because pro wrestling is getting really good at creating lovable heels who get cheered.
This Kevin Owens-Sami Zayn storyline is peaking for a big reunion at Elimination Chamber in Montreal, and should the reunion happen in Montreal it’ll be one of the most emotionally fulfilling moments of this generation.
The Street Profits def. Alpha Academy
The Street Profits disappeared off the face of the earth but came back like they never left. They both looked great in the ring, and even though Dawkins had a botch early on, he shined brighter than all of them.
The poor Street Profits are being positioned as the next tag team up to challenge The Bloodline, and based on how the Bloodline story is going, The Street Profits don’t have a chance.
Theory and Seth Rollins come Face to Face
Theory failing to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase on a secondary title, only to win the title that same month, is one of the biggest wastes of any title in WWE history.
Seth Rollins is dressing more and more like a contestant on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
If anybody should have been involved in this segment, it’s Bobby Lashley, who was robbed of a US Title win.
Dexter Lumis def. The Miz
This feud earned yet another “WWE Investigates” segment, featuring Byron Saxton who was all over this show. This isn’t my favorite storyline, but I have no problem with more Byron Saxton.
Dexter Lumis not only won the match, but in the ultimate babyface move, he gave money to the crowd. Despite being doing a serial killer gimmick, you’re a babyface when you give money to the kids.
Candice LeRae def. Dakota Kai
Candice LeRae was compelled to reintroduce herself to the WWE Universe, and after disappearing from television for weeks, I don’t blame her.
For Storyline purposes, Candice LeRae really should have been the fifth woman, but instead WWE appeared to have rushed Becky Lynch back to the main event.
Kevin Owens def. Jey Uso
WWE teased a good-old-fashioned storyline where Kevin Owens has to run through the entire Bloodline, one-by-one, in order to get to Roman Reigns. If or when Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens happens, it should happen last.
This entertaining match was just as concerned about getting Sami Zayn’s facials as it was about getting shots of the match itself.
Kevin Owens won the match, and the finish had nothing to do with Sami Zayn. Good. WWE is slow-playing the inevitable reunion between these two. In fact, as The Bloodline took turns interfering, Sami Zayn not being involved in the finish was kind of suspect.
