Seth Rollins def. Roman Reigns by Disqualification—WWE Universal Championship

It was announced during the pre-show that Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley would be kicking off the Royal Rumble, but with Vince McMahon on a tear, those plans apparently changed.

Roman Reigns opening this match tells me there’s an even bigger chance of him losing the WWE Universal Championship to Seth Rollins, only to win the Royal Rumble later on.

Seth Rollins walked out to the Shield music, wearing his old tactical gear, and he’s never been so over. He even got a bigger pop than Roman Reigns during the pre-match intro.

This crowd was furious with the DQ finish, though by chanting “Roman sucks!” it might have gotten the right type of heat.

Ronda Rousey Wins 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble

  1. Sasha Banks (Eliminated by Queen Zelina)
  2. Melina (Sasha Banks)
  3. Tamina (Natalya)

  6. Liv Morgan (Brie Bella)
  7. Queen Zelina (Rhea Ripley)
  8. Bianca Belair (Charlotte Flair)

  11. Sonya Deville (Naomi)
  12. Natalya (Bianca Belair)

  14. Naomi (Sonya Deville)
  15. Carmella (Rhea Ripley)
  16. Rhea Ripley (Charlotte Flair)
  17. Charlotte (Ronda Rousey)
  18. Ivory (Rhea Ripley)
  19. Brie Bella (Ronda Rousey)
  20. Micke James (Lita)
  21. Alicia Fox (Nikki Bella)
  22. Nikki A.S.H. (Ronda Rousey)
  23. Summer Rae (Natalya)
  24. Nikki Bella (Brie Bella)
  25. Sarah Logan (Bella Twins)
  26. Lita (Charlotte Flair)
  27. Might Molly (Nikki A.S.H.)
  28. Ronda Rousey—Winner
  29. Shotzi (Ronda Rousey)
  30. Shayna Baszler (Charlotte Flair)

Sadly, Melina was eliminated immediately after a feel-good moment where she became emotional upon returning.

Queen Zelina eliminating Sasha Banks feels like that one night the Browns beat the Steelers in the playoffs.

Sonya Deville pulled a Vince McMahon from 1999 by joining the commentary table as an authority figure competing in the Royal Rumble.

Micke James walked out to “Hardcore Country,” and even got to wear the Impact Knockout’s Championship.

The Final Four was Charlotte Flair, Bianca Belair, Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey.

Becky Lynch def. Doudrop—WWE Raw Women’s Championship

This match had the tall task of following Ronda Rousey and the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble, and it showed because the crowd was completely dead in the early goings.

These two worked hard but weren’t able to get the crowd all the way back after two heated matches to start the show.

Bobby Lashley def. Brock Lesnar—WWE Championship

Though the term is overused, this was one of the rare WWE matches that legitimately had a big-fight feel.

After landing at a high angle during an early German suplex from Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley took the rest of Brock’s suplexes on his shoulder, and it did not look like fun.

After inadvertently taking out the ref with an F5, Brock Lesnar covered Bobby Lashley for 19 seconds.

Edge and Beth Phoenix def. Miz and Maryse

The crowd was way into this match, possibly more so than any moment besides Ronda Rousey’s return. The biggest reaction was Beth Phoenix attacking Edge.

Though this match had its highs, in terms of crowd involvement, it went a few moves too long.

Brock Lesnar Wins the 2022 Men’s Royal Rumble

AJ Styles entered first and paid homage to Shawn Michaels, with his signature pose.

A showdown between Robert Roode and AJ Styles evoked “TNA” chants. The IMPACT-WWE relationship continues to flourish.

Bad Bunny got even better at wrestling since the last time we saw him.

Once I saw Brock’s 19-second pinfall, I knew he was winning the Rumble to further protect him.
