The Love Is Blind Season 4 wedding day is finally here.
After weeks of pod dates, rash proposals, a pre-wedding honeymoon, breakups, rebounds and one (maybe) cheating scandal, the last four couples standing made it to the altar in Friday’s finale episode. But not all of them remained couples when they walked away from the altar.
So, who cried happy tears and who just cried (and cried and cried)? Here’s the full rundown.
Kwame and Chelsea
The finale teaser trailer vowed viewers could “expect the unexpected,” and the show made good on that promise just minutes into episode, which started where the previous one left off—with Chelsea Griffin waiting to find out if Kwame Appiah “would promise to love her for as long as you both shall live.”
It seemed a safe bet he’d politely decline to seal the deal on the boudoir-photo filled romance that appeared to survive on Griffin’s enthusiasm alone. But as viewers soon learned, the man who continued to flirt with his first-choice pod mate long into his engagement, actually delivered a jaw-dropping, “I do.”
Here’s hoping there’s some cutting-room floor footage somewhere that makes their union make sense.
Paul and Micah
While Appiah and Griffin felt like a likely no-go going into the big day, Paul Peden and Micah Lussier felt like a complete question mark. The pair never really displayed any chemistry, despite frequent professions of love. But there was so much of the latter, it felt as though they might just give it a go anyway.
In fact, during the getting-ready footage, Lussier seemed excited about the prospect of tying the knot, though nervous about whether her groom felt the same way. Over in Peden’s suite, uncertainty was the theme as he asked everyone for advice, including his mother (aka Lussier in 30 years).
When they finally stood before their officiant, a fidgety Lussier didn’t say “I do” or “I don’t.” Instead, she basically played the Uno Reverse Card of alter answers.
“I think that, in this moment, the best thing I can do for us, is to give you the opportunity to answer first,” she said.
However, she didn’t like the answer he offered, which was a long-winded and “love”-filled “nope” that left her absolutely inconsolable. (And left her oddly cruel BFF smiling and saying, “That’s how I wanted it to go,” from the seats.)
As for Peden’s reason for walking away from their showmance, he later explained that he struggled with “envisioning Micah as a mother.” (Unlike viewers, who could easily envision her as Peden’s mother.)
Brett and Tiffany
And then it was time for the sure-thing couple—the two people who just had to get married, because failing that, the entire audience would lose faith in reality TV-based love.
Brett Brown and Tiffany Pennywell never had a moment’s drama on the show. They were the palate cleansers of Season 4. For every red flag scene, from Jackie Bonds belittling Marshall Glaze to Jackie Bonds belittling Marshall Glaze some more, there was Brown and Pennywell having thoughtful discussions about their future together.
Preview clips for the finale attempted to sow fear in the hearts of the couple’s fans, with clips of Pennywell crying and of Brown filled with anger about something that “should not happen.” But, as it turned out, she was crying because her heart was so filled with joy, and he was mad about his ill-fitting wedding pants. The only real concern for these two came when Brown insisted on getting his pants tailored with just an hour and a half to go before their date at the altar.
Thankfully, his crisp, white and no longer baggy trousers didn’t make him late, and so the most predictable (and genuinely sweet) “I dos” in the history of Love Is Blind went off without a hitch.
Zach and Bliss
While Brown and Pennywell would have made for a feel-good final note, Love Is Blind saved a little uncertainty for the end with Zach Goytowski and Bliss Poureetezadi—and it still ended on a feel-good note.
They were the couple that almost wasn’t, thanks to Goytowski’s decision to pop the question to Irina Solomonova first. And they faced a little push-back from Poureetezadi’s father—even as he walked her down the aisle and urged her to “never settle.” But none of that made them hesitate when they stood up before their friends and family and vowed to love each other for a lifetime.
The chef’s-kiss moment for their romance—and for the finale as a whole—came when it was finally time for them to share their first dance to the song they bonded over in the pods, Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance.”
