Topline
HBO was the big winner of Monday night’s Emmy Awards, with shows like The White Lotus and Succession taking home a large number of trophies, as network newcomer Abbott Elementary shook up the comedy category.
Key Facts
The White Lotus won six awards, more than any other show, followed by Ted Lasso, which won four trophies including Outstanding Comedy Series, and Succession—as the most-nominated show of the night—which won three including Outstanding Drama Series.
Standout winners of the night include Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lizzo, Quinta Brunson, Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Coolidge, who all earned their first-ever awards—an accolade Abbott Elementary’s Ralph immortalized by singing her acceptance speech.
Zendaya won the second Outstanding Lead Actress award of her career for her role in HBO’s Euphoria, following a 2020 award for the same series.

Key Background
HBO’s Succession received the most nominations, at 25, followed by Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ and HBO’s The White Lotus, which each received 20. Longtime Saturday Night Live star Keenan Thompson hosted the ceremony for the first time. At last week’s Creative Arts Emmys ceremonies, Adele and Eminem each won their first trophy, putting them both a Tony Award away from achieving an EGOT (Adele won an Emmy for her concert special last year, and Eminem earned an award for the Super Bowl halftime show). Former President Barack Obama won for narrating Netflix’s Our Great National Parks. RuPaul continued his streak as the winningest Black artist with his win for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program. Ahead of the competition, a study from the Women’s Media Center found that only 33% of nominations in non-acting categories went to women.
