MobLand
MobLand was the second-most successful series launch in Paramount Plus history, behind only Taylor Sheridan’s Landman. As such, it is no great surprise that just weeks after the season 1 finale, MobLand has been renewed for season 2.
The announcement was made among lavish praise for Guy Ritchie’s crime series, which stars big names like Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Tom Hardy and Paddy Considine. Here’s the statement from Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment:
“With more than 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph – driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez, Ronan and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce and Helen.”
“We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the UK.”
MobLand
Paramount Plus has become an increasingly relevant streaming service with multiple big hits, many from Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan. But MobLand comes from crime lord whisperer Guy Ritchie, who has also crafted a similarly themed series for Netflix, The Gentlemen, which was a big hit over there and also renewed for season 2.
The renewal news does not come with a firm release date for MobLand season 2, but there are many ways to at least estimate it with other productions. Paramount Plus wants regular releases, and there are a number of Taylor Sheridan shows it may want to keep pace with. So here are some seasonal gaps there:
- Tulsa King – Season 1-2 gap = 1 year, 8 months
- 1923 – Season 1-2 gap = 2 years, 2 months
- Mayor of Kingstown – Season 1-2 gap = 1 year, 2 months, Season 2-3 gap = 1 year, 5 months
- Lioness – Season 1-2 gap = 1 year, 3 months
I’d love to compare this to the other streaming Guy Ritchie show, The Gentlemen, but we don’t have that data yet. But with production started well after it released, the estimate is that there will be over two years in between seasons.
MobLand is going to be on the high end of these, no question. It’s a ten-episode season, for one, assuming season 2 has the same number as season 1. It also stars the highest-profile actors in an original series on the service between Hardy, Brosnan and Mirren, which could raise availability questions. Given all this, it’s likely that we’re talking about a potential April 2027 release date for MobLand, given that the renewal has only happened now and not before or during the airing of the season. Again, my guess would be longer, and this isn’t going to be a Mayor of Kingstown or Lioness situation. I’d love to be wrong, but it will definitely be no earlier than 2027 that we see MobLand return.
