Wednesday Season 2, Part 2

Murderous beasts, brain-eating zombies, a school filled with werewolves, psychics and other Outcasts, and a tangle of mysteries. All this and more await fans of Netflix’s hit series, Wednesday, when it returns this week. The streaming giant released the first four episodes of the show’s second season back in August, and now the final four episodes are just around the corner.
Before we go further, I’d like to take a moment to protest this release schedule. This was a serious mistake on Netflix’s part. The first half of the season was quite good (you can read my review right here) but chopping it in half like this pretty much destroys all momentum. I’d prefer either a normal Netflix-style binge release or a weekly release that kept audiences on their toes, but didn’t take a four-week break in-between. This show is actually really well-suited to a weekly release, given that almost every episode ends on some kind of cliffhanger.
Netflix says this was always the plan from series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. “We felt that if we were going to split the season,” Millar said, “then the end of the fourth episode needed to be something amazing; a cliffhanger to bring the audience back for the next chapter. That was an exciting challenge.”
“At the end of Episode 4,” Gough added, “Wednesday literally lets the lunatics out of the asylum, and the rest of the season is: ‘Now you have to deal with that …’ She solved one mystery and has unleashed a Pandora’s box of new problems.”
Whether or not that was always the plan – and I maintain that every episode can end on an amazing cliffhanger without splitting the season – it is what it is.
Oh well. This is the Netflix strategy now with all of its popular shows, including the three-part release of Stranger Things 5 later this year.
What Time Does Wednesday Season 2, Part 2 Come To Netflix?
Thankfully, Wednesday is only being split in twain. There’s no crazy three or four-part release schedule.
The final four episodes land on Netflix on Wednesday (obviously) September 3rd at midnight PT / 3 am ET. It’s been a bit of a grueling – and wholly unnecessary – wait, but at least that’s very soon!
I’ll also be reviewing Part 2, so be sure to follow me here on this blog. I’ve seen the episodes and I’m very excited to talk about them with you, dearest readers.
What Happened In Wednesday Season 2, Part 1?
Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, the stony-faced and color-allergic teenage sleuth this story revolves around. After her mystery-solving prowess led to the capture of the Hyde in Season 1, things took another dark turn in Season 2.
In Part 1, Wednesday loses her psychic powers and as she investigates a new spate of murders, also tries to figure out how to get her abilities back. On top of all of this, she has a premonition of her roommate Enid (Emma Myers) dying, and the knowledge that her death is all Wednesday’s fault.
Her investigation leads her to Willow Hill, the insane asylum not far off from Nevermore Academy. Here, she discovers that the people running the asylum have been running secret experiments on students they’ve kidnapped in an attempt to give “normies” special powers. Wednesday frees the inmates, but inadvertently also frees Tyler (Hunter Doohan) the Hyde from Season 1.
Things go badly and more people die, and as Wednesday lies unconcious and Tyler escapes, the credits roll. That’s where we leave off as we await the final four episodes.
What Is Wednesday Season 2 About?
The official synopsis for Season 2 reads: “Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), returns to prowl the Gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where fresh foes and woes await. This season, Wednesday must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem. Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery.”
Here’s the trailer for Season 2, Part 2:
Wednesday also has to contend with a new threat. This year, we bring the family to Nevermore,” Tim Burton said of Season 2. “Your family at school is the worst thing possible, isn’t it?” This means we get to spend more time with her parents and she gets to navigate school with her little brother in tow. It also means we get to spend more time with Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen).
“In Season 2, you get to spend more time with Fester. You see that he is helpful,” Armisen said. “He really does put himself in what you would think is harm’s way to help Wednesday. He really makes it his business to help Wednesday out.”
“Threats remain out there … to both Wednesday and the school,” series creator Mike Millar informs us. “Not all loose ends have been tied up as neatly as she thinks they have.”
In Season 2, Part 2 we get some new characters and see the return of familiar faces. As you can see in the trailer, Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie) is back from the dead. Lady Gaga’s mysterious character, Rosaline Rotwood, also makes her debut.
Who Stars In Wednesday Season 2?
Jenna Ortega leads a terrific cast. Newcomers include:
Steve Buscemi as Principal Dort

Buscemi is best known for his roles in films like Reservoir Dogs and shows like HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Very little is known about Principal Dort, however. But everyone in Nevermore has secrets. One thing we do know? He’s very, very into the school. “He wears purple, branded baseball caps, he’s basically Mr. Nevermore,” Millar says of Principal Dort, “and the opposite of the late Principal Weems, who was so put-together and chic.” Buscemi is a new series regular.
Joanna Lumley as Grandmama Hester Frump
Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) has an icy relationship with her mother, Grandmama Hester. We’ll learn more about why in Season 2. It’s the opposite for Wednesday. “Wednesday and Hester get along great,” co-showrunner Alfred Gough says of the incoming character. “Other than Fester, her Grandmama is probably Wednesday’s favorite person and the one she feels the most kinship with.” Lumley is best-known for her BAFTA award-winning role as Patsy in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. She’s a guest star in Wednesday Season 2.
Other new series regulars include:
- Billie Piper (Scoop, I Hate Suzie)
- Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill, Lord of Misrule)
- Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things, The Handmaid’s Tale)
- Noah B. Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime, Park Avenue)
New guest stars include:
- Christopher Lloyd (The Addams Family)
- Joanna Lumley (Fool Me Once, Absolutely Fabulous)
- Thandiwe Newton (Westworld, Crash)
- Frances O’Connor (The Missing, The Twelve)
- Haley Joel Osment (The Kominsky Method, Somebody I Used to Know)
- Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries, Scream)
- Joonas Suatamo (Star Wars: The Force Awakens)
- Lady Gaga (Gaga: Five Foot Two)
Christopher Lloyd is the second major cast member from the original Addams Family to join Wednesday. He played Uncle Fester in the movies. Christina Ricci played Wednesday.

Some of the cast remain shrouded in mystery. Will Christina Ricci’s Marilyn Thornhill return for Season 2? We shall see . . . . Others, like Percy Hynes White’s Xavier Thorpe have been written off the show. Still others are . . . well . . . dead. Who will survive a grisly second season?
