I admit, unlike Season 1 of Showtime’s Yellowjackets, I’m not quite as eager for the next episode each week. In Season 1, every new episode was a revelation. Each hour of the scary, twisted drama was packed with tension, mystery and suspense.
Season 2 just feels clunkier and less great all around, and while that’s definitely a bummer, I’m still excited to see what happens, especially if the second half of the season picks up the pace (though that is far from the only problem with the show right now, sadly).
In any case, if you’ve headed over to Showtime today to stream the new episode you may be wondering why there isn’t one. This is because the next episode won’t actually air until next week. Episode 6, titled ‘Qui’ (which means who in French) streams on May 5th and airs on TV on the 7th. It’s unclear why there was a hiatus, but it’s back to weekly episodes for the remaining half of the season.
There are only 9 episodes this time around, so it’s possible a mid-season break was needed to fill the ten weeks. It’s also possible that a short break represents something of a reset, with things taking a new (and likely darker) turn in the second half of the season.
You can read my review of Episode 5—which I think had one of the worst scenes in the entire series—right here. I’m hoping against hope that the rest of the season is better.
