It’s that time of the week again. We’ve all been nose to the grindstone since Monday and now it’s time to kick back with a good TV show or movie and relax. I might actually head to the movies this weekend and see Asteroid City, which looks delightful.
If you’re staying in rather than heading to the theaters, this guide will help you navigate all the new content out this weekend on all your favorite streaming services. Let’s dive right in.
New Content This Week
The Bear Season 2 (Hulu)
Jeremy Allen White leads an enormously talented cast in a show about a restaurant and all the stress and hassle and stress that goes into running it. At times hilarious, at times deeply tense, The Bear’s first season was one of my favorites last year. The entire second season is out now on Hulu. Fans of Shameless will enjoy this, as it’s also set in Chicago and you can kind of imagine that this is an alternate-universe version of Lip, actually having done something with his life.
Secret Invasion (Disney+)
I’ve been traveling so I’m behind on all the new shows, but Secret Invasion is one I definitely plan to catch up on this weekend. Episodes actually release on Wednesdays so the first one came out just a couple days ago. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) teams back up with Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) to fight off a, well, secret invasion of shapeshifting Skrulls. It’s getting mixed reviews from critics and audiences so far.
And Just Like That Season 2 (Max)
I’m not a fan of Sex In The City mostly because I just never got around to watching it, and the episodes I caught when I was younger just didn’t appeal to me. But I know a lot of people are, and the sequel series—And Just Like That—returns this weekend for a second season starring Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw with a few returning OG cast as well.
Ongoing Shows
The Walking Dead: Dead City (AMC)
We’ve only seen one episode of this show so far and I was not particularly impressed. Still, for fans of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) who just can’t get enough The Walking Dead, this foray into an apocalyptic Manhattan might be fun. I’m hoping the story picks up as the season continues.
Outlander (Starz)
Season 7 of the historical fiction romance Outlander continues airing weekly episodes on Starz. As I noted last week, I’m a whole season behind on this one as I burnt out after Season 5’s really bleak ending. But it’s one I’ll certainly be coming back to soon enough.
The Crowded Room (Apple TV)
Tom Holland’s new mystery show on Apple TV is airing weekly and while it’s fairing poorly with critics, audiences seem to love it (33% vs 89%) which just makes me even more curious. Having just finished Love & Death, I’m happy to hop into another historical drama.
I’m also catching up on some shows I’m behind on like Apple TV’s Silo and Peacock’s Mrs. Davis and FUBAR on Netflix. I’ve also been re-watching Barry and Better Call Saul, two of the finest shows ever made.
What are you watching these days? Any new stuff I should add to this list? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.
