Warning: Spoilers ahead for Landman Season 2, Episode 9.
The second installment of Taylor Sheridan’s big-oil drama Landman is coming to a close. Here’s everything viewers should know about last week’s shocking episode (including Tommy’s firing) and what time the Season 2 finale will be available in your time zone.
Set during the 21st-century boomtowns of West Texas, Landman follows “a modern tale of fortune-seeking among roughnecks and billionaires in the world of oil,” according to the synopsis. The series is based on the Texas Monthly’s 11-episode podcast series Boomtown, hosted by journalist Christian Wallace, who is also a co-creator on the show.
In the penultimate episode, “Plans, Tears and Sirens,” Tommy is fired from his role as president of M-Tex after clashing with Cami over how she’s been running the company all season. She ultimately lets him go at the launch-day party for the company’s offshore drilling operation, after he claims it’s too risky.
While firing him, Cami says that working in the industry has helped her realize why her late husband gravitated toward the oil business. “You work for a company built on that risk. Built by my husband, who thrived on it, who built a fortune because of it,” she explains. “[The] president of my company can’t be averse to the very thing that built it. You’re fired.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Ariana is attacked and nearly sexually assaulted by the same man who was banned from the bar earlier in the season for harassing her. Thankfully, Cooper arrives at the last second to help her and beats up the attacker, but goes too far.
“Cooper, stop! You’re killing him. Don’t go to jail for this piece of s—, please. Don’t do that to me,” Ariana yells. In the finale, Cooper could face attempted murder charges from the police.
Paulina Chávez, who portrays Ariana, expanded in an interview with TVInsider on how the incident will impact the couple in the Season 2 finale, especially since the entire altercation was captured on camera.
“…You see the security footage at the end of the scene, and I think you’ll definitely come back for this season finale, and I’m so excited for people to watch,” she teased.
