Erica Henningsen, Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Colman Domingo, Will Fort and Marco Calvani in “The Four … More
The Four Seasons — a new Netflix comedy-drama series starring Tina Fey, Steve Carrell and Colman Domingo — premieres this week on the streamer.
The official summary for The Four Seasons reads, “Six old friends head for a relaxing weekend away only to learn that one couple in the group is about to split up. The three couples, Kate (Fey) and Jack (Will Forte), Nick (Carell) and Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), and Danny (Domingo) and Claude (Marco Calvani), are completely upended by the news.
“Over the course of a year, we follow the friends on four vacations, and watch how this shake-up affects everyone’s dynamic — sending old issues and new bubbling to the surface.”
Based on classic 1981 Alan Alda movie of the same name, The Four Seasons will begin streaming on Netflix on Thursday, May 1, at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT. The series consists of eight episodes, which will all be available to stream when the series debuts.
For viewers who don’t subscribe to Netflix, the streaming service offers three different packages. Netflix has an ad-based package for $7.99 per month for viewing on two supported devices, as well as an ad-free package for $17.99 per month for two supported devices.
Additionally, Netflix offers an ad-free package for $24.99 per month for four supported devices with programming in 4K Ultra HD.
Tina Fey Sought Alan Alda’s Blessing To Turn ‘The Four Seasons’ Into A Series
The Four Seasons originated as a feature film from 1981 that was written and directed by Alan Alda, who also stars in the film with Carol Burnett, Len Cariou, Sandy Dennis, Rita Moreno and Jack Weston.
In addition to starring in the series version of The Four Seasons for Netflix, Tina Fey is also a co-creator and writer on the series along with her 30 Rock creative collaborators Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. As the trio found out, putting the series together took some time.
“I was chasing it for a long time, more than five years,” Fey, a longtime fan of the original movie, told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. “I’d spoken to Alan [Alda] early on, got his blessing to pursue it and I think Universal thought they had the rights and then we all realized … we didn’t. So, it was a process of getting the right people to sign off.”
Wigfield, who joined Fisher and Fey for the THR interview, said The Four Seasons is somewhat a departure for the 30 Rock star and creator — who of course shot to stardom as a cast member and head writer on Saturday Night Live.
“Knowing Tina would star in this is what excited me because it felt tonally different than anything we’d done before,” Wigfield told THR. “It’s grounded, it gets into deeper emotional stuff. It’s adult, more true to us, because Lang and I were coming off of high school shows.”
The Four Seasons begins streaming on Netflix on Thursday.
