Adam Sandler in “Happy Gilmore 2.”
Happy Gilmore 2, starring Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald, is new on Netflix this week. What time does the long-awaited sequel to the sports comedy classic premiere on the streaming platform?
The logline for Happy Gilmore 2 simply reads, “Happy Gilmore returns!” Joining Sandler, Bowen (reprising Virginia Venit) and McDonald (Shooter McGavin) for the sequel are Ben Stiller, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), Travis Kelce, John Daly and Margaret Qualley. Several more name screen stars appear in the sequel in cameo appearances in Happy Gilmore 2, as do many familiar faces from the professional golfing world.
Happy Gilmore 2 is directed by Kyle Newacheck (Murder Mystery, What We Do in the Shadows) and written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, who co-wrote the original Happy Gilmore movie in 1996. Happy Gilmore 2 is executive produced by the original film’s director, Dennis Dugan.
Happy Gilmore 2 will premiere on Netflix on Friday, July 25, at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT. For viewers who don’t subscribe to Netflix, the streaming platform has three subscription options.
Netflix offers an ad-based tier for $7.99 per month for viewing on two supported devices, while an ad-free tier is available for $17.99 per month for two supported devices.
The streaming service also has an ad-free package for $24.99 per month for four supported devices that includes 4K Ultra HD programming.
Adam Sandler Says Life Has Changed For The Worse For Happy Gilmore
In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Adam Sandler, along with Tim Herlihy, said they initially resisted the idea of doing a Happy Gilmore sequel until they found a unique way to find the character nearly 30 years after the events of the original film.
“There was no moment we went ‘Aha.’ It just kind of happened,” Sandler told The AP. “The last couple years, we were talking about Happy and how it might be funny if he was down and out.”
Describing Happy at the beginning of the sequel for ABC’s Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan, Sandler noted, “He’s older. He’s a little thicker, as you can tell from one of these camera angles. But Happy Gilmore’s life isn’t perfect right now at the beginning of the movie. And he’s a family man, and he’s gettin’ back into the golf game.”
Rated PG-13, Happy Gilmore 2 begins streaming on Netflix on Friday at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.
