In announcing that the U.S. would be banning Russian oil imports, President Biden declared that the war in Ukraine showed that we need to achieve energy independence (which we had before he took office) and that the best way to do this was to double down on so-called renewables like solar panels and windmills.
This episode of What’s Ahead makes the case for why this fantasy about alternative energy sources recklessly and dangerously ignores reality.
Renewables are immensely expensive and unreliable. Germany went all-out on renewables, which is what led it to becoming so dependent on Putin’s gas and oil.
Yet the White House is still going full-tilt at hindering oil-and-gas production in the U.S. This is particularly perverse now that Europe has acknowledged that natural gas is a clean fuel.
The growth in natural gas usage in the U.S. is why emissions here are down, while they’re going up elsewhere.
Biden’s refusal to reverse course is a gift to Putin.
