What Are Individual Critics Saying About ‘Eddington’?

Bob Mondello of NPR is among the top critics on RT who gives Eddington a “fresh” review, writing, “The director’s provocations keep igniting like firecrackers in a crowded classroom as Phoenix becomes persuasively unhinged, which makes for a compelling enough watch, though what it all adds up to is anyone’s guess.”

Also giving the film a “fresh” review on RT is Alissa Wilkinson of The New York Times, who writes in her review summary, “Your mileage will vary according to your stomach for this stuff, but I found myself breathless with giggles at times, sometimes the therapeutic laugh of recognition and sometimes because Aster has a keen eye for what’s most absurd about human nature.”

Nick Schager of The Daily Beast also has a positive take on Eddington, writing in his RT review summary, “Taking aim at the left, the right, and every mad thing in-between, it’s a fierce and funny provocation designed to p— off everyone along the political spectrum.”

Ann Hornaday of The Washington Post is among the top critics on RT who gives Eddington a “rotten” review, writing, [Ari] Aster isn’t wrong, but by the grotesque, Oedipally tinged conclusion of his cri de coeur, what might have been an energizing or at least enraging cautionary tale ends in a what-just-happened shrug. Let the bad times scroll, on and on.”

In his “rotten” review summary on RT, Peter Howell writes of Eddington, It’s a satire without laughs. A fright movie without jump scares. A western without an obvious villain. A social commentary minus a moral compass.”

Lindsay Bahr of The Associated Press isn’t a fan of Eddington, either, writing in her RT review summary, “Perhaps it’s the kind of movie that future Gen-Alpha cinephiles will point to as being ahead of its time … But right now, Eddington feels like the last thing any of us need.”
