Though many U.S. politicians are no strangers to significant stock market activity, few Congressional trades reach the magnitude of those made by Michael McCaul of Texas.
According to the latest data from the US Senator Stock Trading Radar by Finbold, McCaul reported a staggering 306 trades totaling approximately $25 million on September 18. The 306 trades were executed between August 1 and September 18, meaning that for some, the Representative had waited until the very end of the legal deadline for filing Congressional trades.

These are Michael McCaul’s most interesting trades
There is no shortage of curious moves included in the mammoth batch, but some of the more interesting buys within the time frame include the shares of Meta (NASDAQ: META), Bayer (ETR: BAYN)
Some of the more noteworthy sales include Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), Mastercard (NYSE: MA), Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE), Uber (NYSE: UBER), Visa (NYSE: V), ASML (NASDAQ: ASML), Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), and many others.
It is also interesting to note that within the 45 days, McCaul executed both the sale and the purchase of various assets, including Meta and Bayer’s stock.
Why Representative McCaul’s Congressional trades are controversial
The investments of the Representative from Texas are particularly controversial due to the levels of access and insider knowledge he is privy to thanks to sitting on eight Congressional Committees and Caucuses, with the ones on Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security, High Tech, Cybersecurity, and AI being the more notable.
Such influence can be interpreted as particularly unsavory due to the heavy presence of various stocks he is directly overseeing in his portfolio such as Apple, ASML, Microsoft, and Google.
Representative McCaul is no stranger to suspicious Congressional trades
Additionally, Representative McCaul has found his name in the news over numerous curious investments since 2024 started. In a move that backfired in April, he made a large investment in META shares just before voting in favor of the TikTok ban.
He had also made several notable stock sales – such as that of Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) stock – shortly before the early August downturn. It is also worth mentioning, however, that he near the same time made a string of purchases, including Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) shares.

Some of McCaul’s tendencies have also been subject to scrutiny. For example, his access to various forms of non-public information had brought into focus the fact that the Representative has, in recent years, only been selling the shares of Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) despite, throughout the period, regularly buying the stock of other firms in the same sector.
His sale of TSMC (NYSE: TSM) stock at the time he was serving as the head of the China Task Force in the Foreign Affairs Committee likewise drew attention and suspicion in the wake of his August filing, as has his tendency to simultaneously disclose immense numbers of trades.
In total, by press time, there are 5,730 Michael McCaul stock trades on record with their total volume estimated at $597.51 million.
