Just four albums earn certifications in South Korea this month, which reflects activity through December in the Asian nation. The list of artists who score new awards for some of their most popular efforts includes three of the biggest boy bands in the K-pop space as well as one of the most successful all-female acts ever.
The most impressive award of the bunch goes to Tomorrow X Together, whose album The Chaos Chapter: Fight or Escape hits triple platinum status. In South Korea, that means the set has now sold 750,000 copies, an incredible sum for any act. The boy band has now collected two of those specific wins, as their other title The Chaos Chapter: Freeze is also steady at triple platinum status.
Coming in right behind TXT’s big showing, two other albums go double platinum after selling half a million copies in South Korea. The Boyz snag their third certification of any kind as Maverick hits the special mark. Of their three plaques, two are now double platinum, with one only managing to go platinum.
Twice sees their very recent release Formula of Love: O+T=<3 immediately go from nothing to double platinum, proving its immense and instantaneous popularity by doing so. The effort was only released in November, but it has also been picked up by 500,000 fans in the girl group’s home nation. Twice has now collected an impressive and record-setting nine different awards, and double platinum remains their best showing.
Earning another platinum honor is Monsta X, whose recent drop No Limit is now their seventh certified title. The project was released in mid-November, so it’s clear fans wasted no time in picking up the new title from the band. Somehow, despite the fact that they have more certified albums than most groups in South Korea, none of Monsta X’s efforts have advanced beyond platinum status, at least not yet. No Limit has now sold 250,000 copies.
