Key Facts
“I’ll be honest, I’d love to fire his ass,” Trump said of Powell, whose term as the Federal Reserve chair expires in May 2026.
Trump, who spoke during a Saudi Arabia-backed investment forum, called on Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to find a successor for Powell, adding, “You’ve got to work on him, Scott. The only thing Scott’s blowing it on is the Fed.”
Interest rates are “too high,” Trump noted, suggesting if Bessent—whom Trump referred to as a “voice of reason”—fails to “get it fixed fast, I’m going to fire your ass.”
