Robert Morse, who won a Tony and Emmy award for his portrayal of Truman Capote, has died at the age of 90. His most well known role was as Bert Cooper on AMC drama Mad Men, which resulted in five Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
In a career spanning six decades, Morse gained early notoriety in 1961 in a stage adaptation of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, for which he won the Tony award for Best Actor in a Musical. He later reprised the role in the 1967 film adaptation.

Prior to this first Tony win, Morse began making guest appearances on television in series like The Secret Storm, Goodyear Playhouse, The Alcoa Hour, The Phil Silvers Show, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. His first regularly scheduled TV series was That’s Life, a musical comedy in the 1968-69 season.
A five-time Tony Award nominee, Morse took home his second Tony for his portrayal of Truman Capote in the 1989 production of one-man play Tru. The play was filmed for PBS’ American Playhouse and earned Morse the 1993 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Special.
In 1972, Morse joined other performers in creating the children’s album, Free to Be…You and Me. And he provided his voice for a number of animated TV entries including Hanna Barbera’s Pound Puppies, the 1979 special Jack Frost, and the more recent Teen Titans Go!
Shifting to drama, Morse was a regular on Stephen Bochco’s medical-themed City of Angels in 2000, which was seven years before debuting on Mad Men. In 2016, he portrayed Dominic Dunne in one season of American Crime Story on FX.

At the age of 85, Morse returned to Broadway to star with Nathan Lane in the 2016 revival of The Front Page.
“My good pal Bobby Morse has passed away at age 90,” tweeted Larry Karaszewski, American Crime Story writer and producer and vice president on the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “A huge talent and a beautiful spirit. Sending love to his son Charlie & daughter Allyn. Had so much fun hanging with Bobby over the years – filming People v OJ & hosting so many screenings (How To Succeed, Loved One, That’s Life).”
Morse is survived by his wife Elizabeth Roberts and his children, Charlie Morse, Robin Morse, Hilary Morse, and Andrea Doven.
