Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks may be Hollywood’s most beloved actor, but when it comes to drama, his niece, Carly Reeves, is giving him some stiff competition for the spotlight.
The 39-year-old is, however, unlikely to gain any industry accolades for her most recent performance.
Reeves made her mark this week on the Season 2 premiere of Claim to Fame, the Kevin and Frankie Jonas-led reality TV competition in which little-known relations of the stars stay in the game by keeping their family bragging rights a secret—a feat she failed right from the start. It was her tear and scream-filled meltdown that followed the loss proved her flair for the dramatic.
But, according to her, it didn’t prove she’s “spoiled.”
“So I had a meltdown,” Reeves wrote in a post she shared to Instagram Tuesday. “Say what you want. I’m not spoiled or entitled or crazy I can just be a little expressive and vocal shall we say. Deflecting from the moment you step in the house is not easy when everyone already suspects who you are.”
While Reeves’ entertainment-industry blood relation is actually Hanks wife, Rita Wilson, her far more famous uncle was the one teased in clues during her lone episode of the show—clues that included a photo of a park bench, like the one seen in Forrest Gump.
“I was mad because there are literally hundreds of references to his collection of movies and thought Forrest Gump could have been a clue down the road,” she added.
As for her bench-related anger, viewers know all about that after watching it unfold amid her ouster.
“His freakin’ clues are so freakin’ obvious,” Reeves could be heard shouting at the end of the episode. “A freakin’ bench was in the poster for Forrest Gump. Are you kidding me? Why a bench? Why a bench?! There’s literally no reference to benches on any other movie.”
While weeping profusely, she added that even her fellow competitor, Gabriel, “found that out, and he’s not even, like, smart.”
As she continued to bawl, Reeves bemoaned the premature end of her reality TV journey.
“I didn’t even get to do any challenges!” Reeves yelled. “I don’t deserve this! I should have more camera time! I should be here longer!”
But, as she emphasized on Instagram, it’s not like she’s spoiled or anything.
Besides, Uncle Tom is all too familiar with her manners.
“My uncle is awesome and he has known and experienced my tantrums since I was a kid,” she continued in her post. “He would actually imitate me have a meltdown as a kid! I know it’s not a good look but I really wanted to play along with the rest of the cast. Hope I made you laugh at least! Until I make you…laugh again.”
She closed with the hashtag “#justiceforcarly.”
In a post-exit interview with USA Today, Reeves said that her ever-affable uncle was aware of her plans to appear on the show ahead of time and even approved of it, explaining that he “was just like, ‘Best of luck! That’s awesome!’”
