Well the weekend is over. Monday is upon us. The work week stretches out into the horizon. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day and all that rot.
One thing we can all look forward to—weekend or weekday—is the daily Wordle. The free puzzle game offers up just one word a day—though there are many fun alternatives to keep you puzzling once you’ve completed your word.
For Wordle newbies, here’s my explainer piece on the game and its origin, as well as an intro on how to play. I also wrote this handy tips & tricks piece if you’re looking for some extra help picking the best words or just brushing up your word-puzzling skills in general.

Wordle, which was recently purchased by The New York Times, remains one of the biggest surprise hits of 2022, having grown from a tiny niche game in October to a viral senseation played by millions daily.
The game, which is simple to learn but can still be pretty tricky depending on the word, can be found only on the official website. It’s not available on the App Store or Google Play.
Today’s Wordle Answer #233, Monday February 7th
Before we get to the answer, a spoiler warning! Spoilers ahead! If you don’t want to know the answer I’m not sure why you clicked on this post to begin with, but the answer is forthcoming and you’ve been warned!
Also, a hint: Typically deserving of respect.
And the answer is . . .
This may look random, but I actually had no real choices once I got to RULES. I’d eliminated all the vowels other than ‘E’ and I knew that the word had to end with ‘ER’ and the ‘L’ had to be in one of the first two spots. There just weren’t a ton of other words available that I could think of, and when I realized I should think of words with two ‘E’s I pretty quickly got ‘ELDER’ for the win.
Really, my first two guesses were only useful for eliminating a bunch of common letters (mostly vowels) which can sometimes be just as useful as getting correct letters.
In any case, hope you have a lovely Monday and a wonderful week! Thanks for reading!
