Today’s Wordle #895 Hints, Clues And Answer For Friday, December 1st

Hey look, it’s December! We’re rapidly approaching the end of 2023 and the start of a brand new year. Fresh beginnings. New Year’s resolutions. The whole shebang. Can we do a little bit better this coming year? We’ll find out!

For now, we have Christmas to look forward to. We just decorated the tree on Wednesday evening and put up some other decorations around the house. I’m a huge Christmas nerd so I like to get started on the whole festive Christmas spirit stuff right after Thanksgiving. There’s still more to be done, but it’s coming along.

In any case, it’s December. We’ve already gotten two snowfalls with another on the way. And it’s 2XP Friday, so if you play Competitive Wordle get ready to double your points—positive or negative. Let’s Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Word

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

This was one of those guessing games that felt both lucky and well-played but still didn’t get me the word until guess #4. As I’ve noted in the past, I think a real marker of skill is guessing in three. Anything before that is just lucky. Three is the magic number. Four is fine, but nothing special.

Can you solve today’s phrase?

Flare was a decent guess but Wordle Bot’s slate would have gotten me the ‘T’ sooner. I got that with stead, which mostly juggled the yellow boxes I’d previously gained. Alter finally gave me one box in green, but I was still at just three letters. A whole lot of yellow and grey remained, though only 1 possible solution. It took me a minute to figure it out but then I did: taken for the win! Huzzah!

Do you know what’s funny? Liam Neeson—who I once regarded as one of the great modern-day actors after films like Schindler’s List—really solidified himself as an action star with the Taken franchise. And I’ve only watched like the first half hour of the first movie. I love action movies but just couldn’t get into this series. Go figure.

Today’s Competitive Wordle Score

I’m not at all happy about today’s score. I actually felt okay guessing this one in four because it was a tricky word, but then Wordle Bot went and guessed it in just three. That means I get 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot. Double that for 2XP Friday and I’m at -2. That’s no way to start a brand new month!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “taken” is the past participle of the verb “take.” Its etymology can be traced back to Middle English, where it was spelled as “taken” or “takan.” In turn, Middle English borrowed this word from Old English, where it was “tǣcan.” The Old English word “tǣcan” meant “to take, seize, grasp, or receive.” It is related to the Proto-Germanic word “*tēkaną” and shares a common ancestry with related Germanic languages.

The word “take” has evolved over time to encompass a wide range of meanings and uses, such as acquiring, accepting, understanding, or capturing something. As with many English words, its history reflects the language’s development through various stages and influences, including Old English, Middle English, and the interaction with other languages and cultures over the centuries.
