Today’s Wordle #695 Hints, Clues And Answer For Monday, May 15th

It’s Wordle time, folks. Time to kick off the week right with some good old fashioned puzzle solving.

This weekend was a fun one. It was Mother’s Day which we celebrated with family and such a lovely day out, we barbequed for the first time in a hot minute.

I also rewatched the entire first season of True Detective. I know I’m always griping about not having enough time for the shows currently airing, but I’d been itching to watch this again. It’s been nearly a decade since and I’d forgotten enough to make it so gripping even the second time around. If you haven’t watched that one and you like cerebral murder mysteries, please go watch it on HBO.

In any case, I hope you also had a fun weekend. Let’s do this Wordle!

Wordle Bot Analysis

After I complete a Wordle I always head over to check in with Wordle Bot to see how I scored, both in terms of each individual guess and whether or not I outsmarted the Bot.

I’m so angry at myself today. Madre (for Mother’s Day, which was yesterday) was a great opener, leaving me with just 40 remaining words.

Then I very nearly guessed canoe on my second guess—why didn’t I? It was the first word I was going to go with but then I hesitated because I thought I should pick something that eliminated more potential remaining letters. I didn’t know there were 40 words left to choose from, but I could think of a bunch. Canoe seemed like a good guess because it would eliminate the ‘O’ but if it hadn’t been the right answer, it wouldn’t have been as good a guess as sloth, which took the total remaining words down to just 1.

Fortunately, canoe was my only option after narrowing it down that much so I got it in three. Huzzah!

I can’t tell if the moral of this story is “go with your gut” or “use careful planning and analysis” because while canoe would have been a very lucky second guess, sloth was objectively a great word to narrow down options.

My score today: Another good day, though obviously it would have been better if I’d guessed in two. So close! If I’d guessed in two I would have gotten 2 points for the count and 1 point for beating Wordle Bot for a grand total of 3 points! Since I didn’t, I only get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 points for tying. Still good, but not as good.

(See rules below).

Today’s Wordle Etymology (Via ChatGPT)

The word “scarf” comes from the Old Norse word “skarfr,” which referred to a piece of cloth or a band worn around the neck or head. This word later evolved into the Middle English word “scharf” or “scarf,” which continued to be used to refer to a piece of cloth worn around the neck. Over time, the meaning of the word expanded to include various types of long, narrow pieces of cloth or fabric, such as those used to cover or wrap items, and the word “scarf” took on its modern meaning.
