Today’s Wordle #687 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, May 7th

One week down, three to go and then May is history. My kids are excited: School’s almost out for summer. And now I have that Alice Cooper song stuck in my head. School’s out for summer! School’s out forever! School’s been blown to pieces…

It’s just on the cusp of warm weather. It’s nice and sunny but also cool thanks to spring breezes (which are fine until they become garbage-can-tipping spring gusts). In many ways, this time of year and then the early days of autumn are hard to beat. But then I run a little warm thanks to the Viking blood in my veins.

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: An evil spirit known to snack on corpses.

The Clue: This word has more consonants than vowels in it.

This has happened a few times lately. I open with a really bad guess, no green or yellow boxes, just a long line of greys. Then my second guess slashes that number way, way down and I get lucky on the third.

This time, beard did me no favors. 468 words remained (I discovered later when I went over to the Wordle Bot page for an analysis of my guessing game).

Hoist (perhaps ironically) slashed that number down to just 6. The remaining words were: whoop, phony, chomp, ghoul, chock, and whomp. No, I did not think of all six of those before guessing. I did think that I’d like to rule out that last vowel, and only one word had the letter ‘U’ in it, so that’s why I guessed ghoul.

Lucky me, I got the Wordle! Huzzah!

My score today: This was a double plus good Wordle day for me. I got 1 point for guessing in 3 and 1 point for beating Wordle Bot, who took 4 tries to get the answer today. That’s a grand total of 2 points! Huzzah! (See rules below).
