The weekend is here! Huzzah!
Other than some family plans, my weekend is going to look like this:
- Hike the dogs. I want to get out in nature this weekend and go on a really long hike with my three mutts. A lot of higher-elevation areas are still pretty snowed in, so that could be a limiting factor, but I’m going to figure it out one way or another. We’ll go as far as we can.
- Watch shows. Such juicy TV shows on these days! Yellowjackets continues to be the creepiest show on TV. Succession is as good as ever. And I’ve started watching Beef on Netflix, which is excellent. I also recommend Kiefer Sutherland’s new show, Rabbit Hole.
- Video games. I’ve been playing a lot of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2 since Season 3 is out, but also Valorant and the new Overwatch 2 season. There’s also some upcoming games I need to play for review. And I still haven’t started the remake of Resident Evil 4, so that’s on the list.
That’s pretty much it! Eat, sleep, play and work, of course. I work every day, but at least on the weekends I don’t have to get up early to take kids to school. What are your weekend plans? Anything fun?
Okay, let’s do this Wordle!
How To Solve Today’s Wordle
The Hint: The feeling you get after an intense workout that stresses all of your muscles—a day or two later.
The Clue: This word begins with a vowel.
The Answer:
.
.
.
So this is the second extremely lucky guess I’ve had this week. A couple days ago, my first guess left me with over 700 remaining possible solutions and just one letter in yellow. I managed to guess the word on the very next guess. That was pretty wild, but this might be just as crazy. With that word—carat—I had actually been planning to use it one of these days. I’d been keeping it in my back pocket as something to use when I suspected a word might have two A’s. I had the ‘A’ to work with.
This time, I guessed blues and had all grey boxes. I started thinking of a word that had two vowels, and specifically an ‘A’ and an ‘O’. I floated the idea of float but the ‘L’ was spoken for, and very much out of play. I came up with several words that had E’s in them which was clearly not going to cut it.
Then I turned to words that began with ‘A’ and quickly thought of agony, which is a terrific word no matter how you slice it. So evocative. It almost feels like the sensation itself. This was perfect: It not only had the requisite ‘A’ and ‘O’ it also had a ‘Y’, meaning I could eliminate all the vowels (or semi-vowels) except for ‘I’ in one guess.
Imagine my surprise when every box turned over green. I was genuinely shocked. This was just an elimination word since my opener went so poorly! But hey, I’ll take the W . . . . Too bad it wasn’t on double XP Friday, though. This one is worth 3 points. 2 for guessing in 2 and 1 for outsmarting Wordle Bot, who took 3 guesses to get today’s Wordle. Not too shabby!
Today’s Wordle Etymology (Via ChatGPT)
The word “agony” comes from the Greek word “agonia” (ἀγωνία), which originally referred to the physical and mental anguish experienced by athletes competing in games or contests, particularly in ancient Greek sporting events.
Over time, the meaning of the word broadened to refer to any intense physical or emotional suffering, and it was borrowed into Latin as “agonia” and later into English as “agony.” Today, the word is commonly used to describe intense pain, distress, or struggle.
