I love these stock images I use for Wordle posts. Observe the genius guesses going on in the above picture. The Wordler noobie guesses spiel and gets **all grey boxes** but then guesses spies in the very next guess! Why? You already know that each of those letters doesn’t work!
From here, they guess optic which has ‘P’ and ‘I’ from the previous two guesses, which are both obviously wrong. Groom isn’t the worst guess in the world, since at least it’s all new letters and one of the yellow letters, but from here they dive right into halve for their fifth guess, which includes none of the yellow or green letters they already have. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE???
By the time groom is in there on the fourth guess, there’s only one possible word remaining that could be the answer: motto. As in, what’s the motto with this person?
Sigh. At least there’s an actual possible answer for this one and it’s not total gibberish.
In any case, it’s Wordle Wednesday, which means we’re doing a riddle! I’ll post the answer to the riddle tomorrow here on this blog, so be sure to give me a follow . . . .
The Riddle: Robert’s father has three sons: Snap, Crackle, and _____?
How To Solve Today’s Wordle
The Hint: Na2B4O7·10H2O
The Clue: This word ends with an 8-point scrabble letter.
The Answer:

Well this was no easy Wordle. I thought snafu was hard, but this is just about as tricky. Somehow Wordle Bot snagged it in three. I was not quite so lucky.
My opening guess, slope, definitely left something to be desired. I wish I’d guessed bloat or something. That would have been perfect. Thankfully, dorky slashed the remaining solutions from 231 to just 112, and then taunt cut that down to just 1.
One word that I could not for the life of me think of for the longest time. Finally, after much hemming and hawing and pondering and trying out different letters in my mind, I came to borax for the win. Huzzah!
That’s still a -1 day for me, however, since I lost to the Wordle Bot. C’est la vie!
What is Borax? (Via ChatGPT)
Borax, also known as sodium borate, is a naturally occurring mineral that is commonly used as a multipurpose cleaner, laundry booster, and pesticide. It is composed of soft colorless crystals that dissolve easily in water.
Borax is a compound made up of boron, sodium, and oxygen, with the chemical formula Na2B4O7·10H2O. It is found in large deposits in dried-up lake beds, particularly in the United States, Turkey, and South America.
Borax has a wide range of applications, from cleaning and disinfecting surfaces to being used as a flux for welding and soldering, a fire retardant, and a fertilizer. However, it is important to use borax with caution and follow proper safety guidelines as it can be toxic in large amounts and can irritate the skin and eyes.
Today’s Wordle Etymology (Via ChatGPT)
The word “borax” comes from the Persian word “burah” or “burax,” which means “white.” The Persians used borax for centuries as a flux for soldering and as a preservative for meat. The word “borax” was later adopted by the Arabic language, which influenced the Spanish language, where it became “borax.” From there, it was introduced into other European languages, including English.
