Today’s Wordle #651 Hints, Clues And Answer For Saturday, April 1st

It’s April 1st which not only means a new month is upon us, it also means we have to suffer through the worst day of the year: April Fool’s Day. This is when bad joke headlines flood the internet and “fake news” takes on a whole new meaning—perhaps a less sinister one, but still annoying.

Even Wordle isn’t immune from the pranking, as we’ll soon find out. Consider that an extra hint, dearest Wordlers.

I asked ChatGPT to explain the origins of April Fool’s Day and here’s what the bot told me:

April Fool’s Day, also known as All Fool’s Day, has uncertain origins. The most widely accepted explanation is that it began in France in the 16th century. In 1582, France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. This change meant that New Year’s Day was moved from April 1st to January 1st. However, some people were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved, and continued to celebrate it on April 1st. These people were often mocked and had tricks played on them, leading to the tradition of April Fool’s Day.

Another theory is that April Fool’s Day has roots in ancient Roman festivals, such as Hilaria, which were held at the end of March and involved masquerades and the giving of gifts.

Regardless of its origins, April Fool’s Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world with pranks, jokes, and hoaxes being played on friends and family members.

Silly French people celebrating New Year’s on April 1st! What fools!

Okay, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

Yes! I got it in one! Finally. I’ve been playing Wordle and writing these guides for over a year now and this is my first hole in one. And the sad truth of it is, it was kind of a hole in two. Let me explain.

My first guess was a pretty obvious one: April. I thought, hey, it’s April now why not try April? It’s got a lot of common letters including two vowels. Even if it’s not the word, it’s a good opening guess regardless.

But here’s the thing: Wordle did not accept April as an answer. It wouldn’t let me use it, which I thought was strange. So I thought, okay let’s try a different month out to see. But June is only four letters. Same with July. August is six and everything else is longer. Only one month remained, and it’s the one we just finished.

March. I plugged it in. Imagine my surprise when it turned over all green!

I’m calling this an April Fool’s joke on Worlde’s part. Anyone who entered the word April, thinking it might be the word, was turned away. Anyone lucky or clever enough to try March was rewarded with the hole in one. I’m going with 50/50 luck and cleverness on my part. I did, after all, try April out and only came to March by way of that guess. It wasn’t just a random word, in other words. There was method to my madness!

I may never get another Wordle in one again, so I’m cherishing this moment. That’s 3 points for the guess and 1 point for beating the Bot, making this a 4 point day. Wordle Bot took three, by the way. No cleverness in the machine.

Final note: This is kind of a BS day to get a Wordle in one. Anyone you tell will just say “Oh, haha, very funny. April Fool’s right? Good one.”

Not cool! Not cool at all!
