Welcome back to your daily Wordle guide. I’m your host, Erik Kain, and today we’ll be discussing Wordle #646. Huzzah!

Somehow, April has really crept up on me and it’s already the last week of March. By next weekend we’ll be in a whole new month. My how time flies—whether or not you’re having fun.

Warmer weather is on the horizon and perhaps an end to this infernal funk I find myself in day after day, tired and grouchy and irritable with everyone and everything, but most of all with the damn snow that’s still not fully melted, probably because it keeps snowing! **shakes fist at clouds**

But enough grumbling. Let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

Wordle Analysis

Every day when I’m done with my Wordle I go to the New York Times’ Wordle Bot website to run an analysis of my guessing game. That’s where I get the above screenshot each day. The Wordle Bot takes each guess and shows you how many words you’ve eliminated (or, rather, how many remain). It tallies your performance and offers up suggestions about what you could have done better. It helps you up your game, and I always play competitively against the Bot to see if I can outguess it. Okay, let’s take a look!

Wordle #646 Analysis

I must admit, today’s Wordle really had me stumped for a bit. I guess guano just isn’t a common enough word in my day-to-day life and I kept thinking it must be a ‘QU’ word but couldn’t make anything stick. Apparently there was one other possible solution there at the end but the word—swang—is not one I’m familiar with. It means ‘low, grassy land’ and is similar to swamp.

In any case, despite this being a confounding word I feel good about my guessing game. My first guess, plain, slashed the remaining solutions down to just 32, and crane brought that even lower, to just 2. From here, after much deliberating, I finally thought of guano, the bat poop every D&D wizard needs to cast a fireball spell.

Huzzah!

Alas, I lost to the Wordle Bot who got his in just three today. That’s zero points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot for a total of -1. Bat poop!

ChatGPT’s Etymology Lesson

I asked the AI chat bot ChatGPT to explain the etymology of today’s word. Here’s the answer:

The word “guano” comes from the Quechua language, which is spoken by indigenous people in the Andean region of South America. The Quechua word “wuanu” means “dung” or “manure,” and it was adopted into Spanish in the mid-16th century as “guano.”

Guano refers to the excrement of seabirds and bats, which is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and other nutrients that make it a valuable fertilizer. In the 19th century, guano became an important commodity for agriculture, and it was exported from Peru and other South American countries to Europe and the United States.

I’d love it if you gave me a follow on Twitter or Facebook dearest Wordlers. Cheers!
