Today’s Wordle #644 Hints, Clues And Solution For Saturday, March 25th

Not only has the weekend arrived, it’s actually the last weekend of March. Next Saturday is April 1st—April Fool’s Day, to be exact. The worst day of the year. We’ll have to deal with fake headlines (and fake news) even more than usual. Oy vey.

So cherish this moment, dearest readers. Cherish this Saturday in March in early spring, this time of innocence and rebirth. To be fair, it’s two weekends from now that really takes that theme and runs with it. Easter Sunday is on April 9th, which is fast-approaching. Holy resurrections and fluffy white rabbits. Chocolate and god.

In any case, we have a Wordle to solve. The word puzzle game created by Josh Wardle and purchased by the New York Times for a low seven-figure sum remains surprisingly popular long after the game’s release in October, 2021. It reached its zenith a year ago, but this little community is going strong to this day.

So let’s do it!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Democracy pretty much requires these to work.

The Clue: This Wordle has more consonants than vowels.

Wordle Analysis

Every day when I’m done with my Wordle I go to the New York Times’ Wordle Bot website to run an analysis of my guessing game. That’s where I get the above screenshot each day. The Wordle Bot takes each guess and shows you how many words you’ve eliminated (or, rather, how many remain). It tallies your performance and offers up suggestions about what you could have done better. It helps you up your game, and I always play competitively against the Bot to see if I can outguess it. Okay, let’s take a look!

Wordle #644 Analysis

I’m sad that this one took me four guesses, especially since I was so close on Guess #3. My opening word, spate, was actually decent though nothing to write home about. With 118 options remaining, I still had a lot of the field left to narrow.

My second guess, retro, did the trick, slashing that number down to just three. I was able to come up with outer, otter or voter as possible guesses here and honestly I just went with the one that had the most vowels. That’s not necessarily a good strategy, but there’s not much you can really do when you only have three to pick from.

Alas, outer was right out. So was otter. In the end, much like in any election, it was the voter that won the day. Huzzah!

I get zero points, unfortunately. Zero for guessing in four and zero for tying Wordle Bot. Ah well, it beats losing! (See rules below).

ChatGPT’s Etymology Lesson

I asked the AI chat bot ChatGPT to explain the etymology of today’s word. Here’s the answer:

The word “voter” comes from the Latin word “votare,” which means “to vow or to promise.” This verb was often used in the context of making a pledge to a candidate or a cause, and eventually came to refer specifically to the act of casting a vote in an election. The noun form of “votare” was “votum,” which meant “a vow or a wish,” and this word also influenced the development of the English word “vote.” The word “voter” itself first appeared in English in the mid-17th century, according to the Oxford English Dictionary.

I’d love it if you gave me a follow on Twitter or Facebook dearest Wordlers. Cheers!
